Re: Prize fight Iphone 4 vs htc EVO

One thing the iPhone blows away the competition without a doubt is the large amount of accessories made for it. At home I got a Sony iphone/ipod doc alarm clock/ boombox radio. When I went on vacation at the Hyatt over a week ago, their alarm clock also had an iphone doc. They got all sorts of mounts/doc connectors for just about anything now for it.

To me, that’s a big deal. I really like having all sorts of accessories that last for years. My first ipod I bought 7 years ago also works in the same Sony doc that bought a few months ago as and I can interchange it with my new ipod nano, my iphone 3GS and my iPhone 4. With HTC, they don’t make jack for it, and if you did manage to get some doc, as soon as you change hardware you have to start all over again. Even my Acura has an ipod/iphone doc that I can listen to music and change songs by the buttons on my steering wheel as well as stream Pandora through it. Basically, with the iphone, you get seamless integration with so many things.

very true about the support....apple products are like cash cows...even my bmw had ipod integration in it, but thats why I have an ipod. It's nice for my phone to play music, video, or whatever but phones these days just don't last long enough to do all these things. Having a separate phone and an video/mp3 player is the best combo. I can barely even go through the whole day on my phone with texting, surfing the web, and calls without the battery draining like crazy so I can imagine if I added playing music and watching videos on it too. I'm all for the all-in-one, but battery life needs to be longer.

As for HTC, it just doesn't have the appeal as Apple i suppose. If I asked some random person on the street what an ipod or iphone is they would know what it is. If I asked them if they knew what HTC or HTC EVO or touch pro, they would be oblivious to what I was asking.

Good point NikkG. There is no arguing this point.

These phones are both so incredible that it is a tough call to absolutely say one is better than the other. They both shine in different areas and while both accomplish the same goals, do so in many different ways. It really comes down to personal preferences with these two devices. Even if one is slightly faster than the other, do you really care if your phone is opening programs 0.1 seconds slower than another phone on the market? Personally, I don't.

In all honesty, the constant claims of one being better than the other is getting old. Can we just accept that they are both incredible phones and that for some people the iPhone is better while others prefer the EVO?

You have to understand, the average person on the street doesn’t give a damn about OS’s or whatever. They just want something that is easy to use and works. Its only on this site and other tech sites that make a big deal about these issues. Trust me, 99.9% of the populace out there don’t give a damn about all the inner workings of a phone.

The reason iphone got big is because it has an integrated ipod, so that’s what started the masses to jump on it and so far it’s a huge success. I personally enjoy my iphone a great deal, just a great all around phone that does everything I need it to do.

To me, the iphone 4 is not just the OS or the hardware; it’s an all around great package: slim size, quality workmanship, long lasting battery, fantastic screen, great reception, fast speed, many accessories, ipod integration, and finally the many great apps and games make it a winner for me. Even the ATT service has been much better for me in my area than Sprint and T-Mobile. To me, the pluses outweigh the minuses by a long margin.

I agree, I actually like the EVO and was about to pull the trigger on it, but the accessories, bad HTC quality, and bad Sprint service in my area turned me off on it.

Also, I've become highly biased against HTC and do not recommend them any longer, I've had over 5 HTC phones in the past and they all seem to have quality issues at one time or another. HTC needs to get their act straight, to keep putting out bad junk is not gonna cut it any longer and I hope Google moves away from that crappy company.

I get what you are saying and I know the iphone does a lot of great things.. the only gripe I have with all phones released these days are the battery life. All these companies want their phone to do it all, but battery life is just not caught up to what it should be. I certainly don't like to carry around a bunch of batteries everywhere i go, but with the iphone you can't change the battery so you're stuck trying to charge it somewhere. I just wished these phones just came with higher capacity batteries that last at least 1 day with extensive use instead of half a day and then running to the charger...

Well here is the thing, the iphone 4 also has the best battery life of any smartphone I've used. Mines easily last early morning till midnight with heavy 3G use. On normal use I can go a couple of days easily. I even ordered a 1900mah rechargeable external battery for long trips to carry if I need it for 7 bucks from ebay.

I've seen you mention this a few times though I haven't had the same experience as you; bad luck I guess. I have had a Mogul, Touch, Touch Pro, Diamond, Touch Pro 2, and now the EVO. I have been impressed with the build quality on all of these devices, even my TP did not have the keyboard issues that many reported.

Back to the accessories thing, I hope that HTC realizes they have a solid form factor in the EVO and in future renditions of the device keep this form factor the same for compatibility reasons. I think HTC needs to minimize the number of devices they make. For instance, as far as touch screen phones how about making the EVO and Incredible and a hardware keyboard sporting version of each? Perhaps then more third party manufactures would increase production of accessories for these phones. Anyhow, just a thought.

I have heard and seen tremendous battery life out of this thing. Though I think my experience with Blackberry takes the cake in the battery life comparison. My old pearl would last for days and days without a charge and heavy use. Though without the bells and whistles of more versatile OSes such as Android and iOS.

Re: Prize fight Iphone 4 vs htc EVO

MLIN,

I agree, actually, Android needs to standardize on one size and stick to it and have the connections located at one place so that their can be compatible accessories for it. I think a good size for screens should be about 3.7. If you go any bigger the phone becomes too large (especially for females) and it kills the battery.

You must be a lucky person not to have issues with HTC. Check out the TP1/TP2 forums and read all the complains. Its not just the bad quality they have, its the outdated hardware they use. Like the jump from TP1 to TP2, they pretty much used all the same internals (processor, ram, etc) and just slapped on a bigger screen, keyboard and removed the flash. A whole year later and that's the best they can do is put a bigger screen? What a ripoff. They should've put a snapdragon but they were too cheap and milked its customers. Thats when I quit and went to iphone, I wasn't gonna let them play me like that and give me outdated junk.
