Re: New ROM VZW 3.04 Shipped

Posting my .02 FWIW...

I upgraded using the installer posted on the Verizon site, and it went flawlessly.

Further, despite dire warnings, I restored from a sprite backup, using Merge Level 1 as recommended by someone a couple posts back, and it worked perfectly, no issues other than the TV icon came back, so I renamed the services key as posted in the other thread and that works great now too.

So far, and admittedly it's early to tell, my performance is stellar... everything is super fast now. Then again, my old firware was a 1.x, so I jumped right over the 2.x ROMs and went right to 3.0.4 ... but it's silly fast.

Battery life? Too early to tell. I have the extended battery, and with GSM turned off, BT and GPS on, I could typically get 1-2 full days' use, depending on how much talk time I used. It will be interesting to see if this changes the drain rate, either way.

One HUGE thing I'm looking forward to is to see if the BT end call from the car issue is resolved... can't wait.

I also had another issue, relating to BT failing to disconnect/undock from my car, resulting in a dead battery more than once - hopefully this will be the fix for that too.

Thanks to all the posters here for your feedback, good stuff.

Jeff

Yep, sure enough, end call works, and works instantly.

I do have to say that so far, it seems the battery life is indeed much worse

I'm letting it drain completely and will charge overnight, will know for sure by this time tomorrow.

So we have:

Pros: WAY snappier UI, fixes BT issues
Cons: Suckass battery life?

I had terrible battery life on and off until I disabled the Verizon TV app entirely. Now I get incredible battery life.

I've had the phone on since I woke up this morning and the battery is down only to 95%.

Re: New ROM VZW 3.04 Shipped

My experience has been battery life on the new ROM is WAY better. I was lucky to be at 40% after of day of little to no use. Looking right now I'm still at 100% after a day of little to no use. For me the ROM upgrade is worth it for the battery life alone, its pro not a con!

So in regard to disabling the TV app... i'm guessing if your not paying verizon monthly there's no reason to have it running (obviously), and by it running in the background it is taking up resources and always connecting to the TV source/ cell tower which is eating away battery? i always see a little TV icon but i dont subscribe....

If you would like to elaborate above if i'm incorrect on something let me know, otherwise can you point me to the cab please to disable TV

Re: New ROM VZW 3.04 Shipped

Satsun i can take no credit for this fix, but it works well, refer to post #31 in the following post, it explains how the cab in that post turns off the TV service and removes the icon, it worked for me, good luck:
