OK, to prove that I will hold up my end, just shoot me a PM and I'll help out anyone...it's hard to do it over the forums because I don't have that much time to read read and read, then post to everyone

Re: Can't we all just get along?

I think people simply tired of manilla...After all it all comes to adding/removing widgets.Like footprints,I dont think its worth to use so much memory for such useless widget. The only widged I like is "programs"launcher, the rest is pointless .The same reason why mpenguin14 create M2DC-to get rid of so many useless widgets. Our future is WM 6.5!

At the risk of ruffling feathers, I would suggest that the big difference between XDA and PPCGeeks is the "donate" button. On the one hand, I think it's perfectly reasonable to want compensation for some of the outstanding ROM's but on the other hand it contradicts the concept of open source.

A few of the most talented chefs here crossed an invisible line between asking for donations and commercial enterprise. They were banned or just left. So of course their is going to be a dearth of talent here. That's just unfortunate but I don't fault Geeks or the chefs. Although I find ROM cooking fascinating, I certainly am not going to invest the time you super-chefs do without reward. I've got a big fat mortgage and I don't expect a bail-out!

The other thing is that it seems like the vogue is yesterday's news. I was absent from ppcgeeks for a couple months and when I came back I see that the majority of posts are for the Touch Pro. Sucks for me because I have no intention of giving up my vogue until they add Wifi and a VGA screen to it! For my purposes it is nearly a perfect device.

Just my two cents. Please hold the flames!

While I agree fully with the intent of this thread and do fully believe in the idea behind "more eyes can easily see the problem as more brains can easier solve the problem" (sometimes LOL) it need to be understood this is NOT open source material whatsoever,

There is no GPL, NO Copyleft on any of this that people do. This is an operating system and applications and the like that are being ripped out, modified and ported to devices they may or may not ever been intended for (e.g. TF3D/2D aka Manila or soon WinMO 6.5) the GUI was never intended for out devices nor was the OS, but people are obtaining the software and modifying them for such a purpose much as someone downloads an ISO of Vista and some key generator and puts it on an old PC, Microsoft owns the OS, you as the consumer buy a license to use Microsofts OS

So lets be clear on the ideal and intent here - I love the idea and purpose of ripping things out, modifying them and trying them on other items, its great and I appreciate and am in awe of some of the chefs that have the time, patience and ability to do as they do but this is not open source nor is it in any reality legal and really the only reason the owners of the items used here and elseware havent cracked down is that its simply too much, too big of a community to do so plus the innovations are too welcome to close the shop down when they can grab fixes and changes for free and use them themselves.

Re: Can't we all just get along?

Maybe there is a better term than "open source" but what I was referring to was the modification made by ROM chefs, not the copyrighted HTC and MS software. Sorry I didn't make that clearer.

Anyhow, my point was that the donation system has tended to create competition for donations among some of the hard working and talented chefs which led to hard feelings, banning, etc. Whosdaman's point is well made that it would be best for all of us if that competition were dropped and everybody just shared their "trade secrets". Perhaps we should be offering donations for those secrets rather than the ROM's?

i actually just got rid of my diamond for a brand new touch vogue. i also hate touch flo 3d. i feel the vogue is a better phone and much more customizable. what i would like to see is a custom rom made for it sort of like grooves rom for the diamond. a rom with no touchflo 3d and one that is compressed so it does not take up alot of ram. until then ill use my stock sprint rom.

Understood, and agree fully .. the "donation" tab has basically made the forums that have chefs/modders much like a Marrakesh marketplace, anything for a price when in reality the "donation" is for time spent, time spent that they would be doing anyway so its a bonus system for the ones asking from those that donate, I really dont have much of an issue with the donate, but I do have issues with locking and holding back until "donations" are made to a limit expected and then you still cant open and use the ROM

I wasnt meaning it to sound argumentative with your reference to open source, its just a peeve of mine how easily its bandied about when there are many regulations over the ideal of open source and copy left items is all

I for one like the look and feel of TF2D and would LOVE to see OpenGL and TF3D actually implemented on these devices although Iolite/footprints is basically useless for me and seems to cause more issues in stable ROMs than its been worth thus far

Just my 2 cents, YMMV

So true....

But in the end it will be worth it

The stress for TF3D is the crisp and stability and speed of it. It's much better overall

I agree completely in regards to OpenGL as well as new XIP/SYS integrations in current and future ROM development, I just dont see a true use for footprints itself to be a prime component of the TF2D/TF3D ROM's to focus so much on it as many have, unless the end user is a road warrior, sales or road tech where GPS and Pictures help them reach their destination easier than just inputting an address in google maps or M$ Live and going there as well instead of being a secondary or tertiary component and focusing more on the SYS/XIP, OpenGL, Mail, UI, ETC development for faster, smoother OS as a whole rather than dealing with shiney pretty things to go "ooohh" "ahhh" over and then done

I liken footprints and things like it to new toys for a little kid on christmas, the fun of the toy last 5 minutes but the box it came in will last for weeks
LOL
