Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore
^^ I can verify that this seems to have had an effect. Why it works... I don't know, but I went from aGPS not working at all to tracking 6-8 satellites near the window indoors.
I was reading earlier an internal memo that Verizon plans on unlocking the aGPS for some of devices (Omina, Touch Pro, ets). SO perhaps that has something to do with it. Thanks "thenikonian," for pointing this out!

The memo: Verizon Wireless, like all carriers, orders devices to meet certain specifications inclusive of features. Each of these specs is tested to determine if it meets our performance goals. There are instances when the phone will pass our extensive testing process but a specific feature may not meet the standard. We will often choose to introduce the phone without that feature but ask that the manufacturer come back to us with revised software that has to be tested to make sure the service works the same across our entire wireless footprint –from Maine to Hawaii. In the case of open standalone GPS, we are partnering with the Windows Mobile device manufacturers to provide a software upgrade that will add this capability to the existing assisted GPS capability. This is a complex development project to provide open standalone GPS while maintaining the assisted GPS capability with the level of performance and security that our customers expect. The recently introduced Windows Mobile devices including Omnia, Saga, and Touch Pro are targeted to add open standalone GPS in the 1st half of 2009. Funny, but sprint doesn't seem to have any issues successfully implementing agps for a while now. Let it go, Verizon. |

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore
In reading some other posts... The whole regedit of changing the mode from "2" to "0" may just be disabling aGPS and making the phone use it's internal GPS only. So it does have an effect, just not solving the problem of no aGPS. Although, I am no were near being an expert on this kind of stuff so I could be wrong.

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore
Hmmm... Very interesting post/link...
Just found this too: According to a post over a ppchaven, Verizon has supposedly not changed anything on their network. Last edited by sdlucky7; 03-19-2009 at 05:35 PM. |

Re: Verizon GPS not working anymore
OK, I just confirmed this works. Locks take about 30 seconds but it works!
This is a procedure from xda thanks to zanymonster 1) if you haven't already, you need to flash your phone to MR1 or MR2 official release. You can find the MR1 for 6900 herehttp://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downl...zon%20Wireless 2) install Valhalla .cab file for gpsserver (attached) 3) edit the registry and change the following 3 entries: * \KHLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEAddress = C3CF657E (REG_DWORD Hex) * \HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEPort = 7788 (REG_DWORD Decimal) * \HKLM\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\Mode = 0 Reboot. You must do a soft reset before this will work. Get ready for slower locks and less accuracy, but it does work, and it is good enough for turn by turn in Live Search. I have a Verizon XV6900, WM6.1, Valhalla Cab. My GPS is not working on Google Maps nor FreeCaddie. I downloaded PHM Regedit to make the registry modifications, but am clueless on how to do it.
