Re: Start Screen Splash

Q: How do I enable/disable the Startup Animation?
A: In Advanced Config navigate to Startup Animation and blank out the "GIF" line.
NOTE: If you want to change the default animations, you must make sure that the "*.gif" is either 240x320 or 320x320.

The animation I have is the default verizon animation and it is the size required.....also there is nothing in my advance config that is labeled startup animation....

Re: Start Screen Splash

The challenge here is that the replies you are posting aren't particularly informative, so it is difficult to help. I'm not saying that this is your fault. For example: When you state that you don't have the following key "HKML\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation" that seems strange. It is doubtful that there could have been a working startup animation, without this key and the associated values (name/data).

There are three ways to get around this:
  1. re-create the key and values by hand
  2. put together a cab file to install the key, values and animation
  3. perform a hard-reset of the phone to restore the WDM ROM to it's delivered configuration and start over
My suggestion is to do #3 to restore the WDM ROM to default configuration and then take a look at the registry key and, as I suggested earlier in the thread, rename the file I attached to match the GIF file. Copy the new file to your phone and you should be all set.

Best regards,
-boggsie

Well, there could be some confusion on terminology going on, because in your earlier reply, you specifically mentioned "trying to put something in the registry" ...

I'm not trying to be a jerk, and I would like to be able to provide some level of relief, but it is impossible to successfully troubleshoot a problem and resolve the issue, when I'm not sure that you understand what I am saying and I'm also not sure if you're completely sure of what you are saying in response.

I can see where having a borked phone would cause some level of irritation. If the phone is STILL Freezing, as you appeared to state earlier in the thread, then hard-reset to get back to ground zero.

Or, you might try to completely and thoroughly describe the situation as it presently stands and we can have a fresh start at trying to resolve the issue.

the phone is not frozen it functions the verizon animation just freezes and like I stated earlier the only thing in the registry that is changed is the welcomehead.96 and when I use the verizon animation as a gif file to replace the existing png file for the welcomehead.96 it freezes mid animation and then the phone starts as normal I just want the animation to go all the way through. So I'm sorry that you think that I am stupid but I am actually not and there is nothing in the registry labeled startup animation nor is there anything in my advance config menu with that name. the only registry entry I do have is in the windows folder and it is labeled splash screen and that is where I found the welcomehead.96 files.....so like I said I am just as confused as you are but I'm not stupid.

See, this is part of the issue. I say confusion ... you hear stupid. Those two words are actually worlds apart.

When you first startup the phone, there is a potential for two boot images, followed by a startup animation, followed by an OS Splash screen.

Did the original rom have a startup image that was not still photo or image, but a short movie? (animated gif)

Where in the registry (the key, value and data) did you change welcomehead.96?

What were the (key, value and data) before (originally) and what are they now that you have changed it?

The archive that I attached included an animated gif file "VZW_Startup.gif".
Where on your phone did you copy this file?
If you renamed the file, what name did you give it?

Best regards,
-boggsie

The rom has a start animation that says windows mobile that it is loading the OS then it goes to the welcomehead which I changed but I just renamed it welcomehead.96.png and it is just a still image of the gif you sent me. Now as a still image(png file) the verizon image pops up fine as the welcomehead. But... If I try to change it to the gif file you provided which I renamed welcomehead.96.gif the animation freezes. I have searched to try and find the boot animation that is the windows mobile screen that says its loading my OS and settings but I can't find it. The file you provided is now renamed welcomehead.96.gif and is in the windows folder.

Search the windows directory on your phone for *.gif files.

We're probably looking for something with a file name that includes startup or animation or ani ... but a list of all *.gif files in the \windows\ folder is where we will start.

Once you have that list of files, copy them to your PC and open each of them up in Internet Explorer. The GIF file animation will run in Internet Explorer.

When you find that file, rename the verizon file I attached to the exact same file name of the GIF that animates in Internet Explorer.

Then copy this renamed file to your PPC "\windows" directory.

Best regards,
-boggsie

Do you only see the animation when you do a hard reset, and not when you do a soft reset?
