What I believe your seeing isn't aGPS at all, but your getting a lock, on one or two satellites, and that is what is providing the inaccurate reading, even though google says its not connected to any satellites, its really impossible to tell how quickly, or accurately that number google displays really is.
AGPS is definitely working now (Cell Tower Triangulation). I was just throwing the mile out there. Sometimes it's within a block. sometimes it's miles. As soon as I get 2 Sats or more it's dead on. AGPS (cell only assist) will not get you within 10 yards reliably.

Cell Tower Triangulation (the assist in AGPS) is not that accurate usually. Had my daughters BB which only had Cell Tower GPS and it was all over the place. If you have 12 towers near by maybe it's more accurate.

Sample articles discussing results using cell only. But with the Cell Tower triangulation (Assist) now working COLD Starts on the Sat GPS will be MUCH better and more consistent.

Note sure why GPSMode=2 never seems to use the "assist" even though it should.

It's usually a Monday night they release (I find).

Mine is running fantastic. I think there are tons of variables and information here and a lot of folks (including ROM builders) are trying to keep up and test. Conditions also vary (time, weather and location).

I suspect we'll converge a lot over this next week on behavior.

I am in no rush for Sprint ROM at this point. I'd wait for reports on how well it behaves.

I see many similar threads in the Mogul forums.

This original thread is still the best in my opinion and the current "Stickied FAQs" all assume you run a Stock ROM without any fixes needed or you run a cooked ROM. It's missing how to setup a Stock ROM and once you know that you can "fix" a cooked ROM that wasn't updated (with new information) when you used it or not rereleased yet.

Third File "Unlocking Files" is the "1-2-3 Method" it's called 1-2-3 because it's a Zip with 3 files you run to "Unlock" (DISABLE SECURITY).

This thread below in my opinion should be restickied and updated.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=24925

This thread is the thread to watch for the new GPS DLL's, it should be renamed and Stickied !!

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25407

I used the ZIP so far and is a pain in the butt because you have to rename old DLL's. If old DLL's are cooked in your ROM you might be able to still overwrite ok [you won't be able to rename), I'm not 100% sure. Use Total Commander to copy files.

Oh CAB might work better, but I was nervous it installed "Kickstart" which is not needed or wanted if you use "1-2-3 Unlock Method".

I'm NOT using a cooked ROM, I'm still using the procedure in the First thread and so are many folks because the Altell ROM as is very Vogue. The heck with 6.1. All I want is a Stock Sprint like ROM with GPS. Altell ROM is 90% just that. With some work, mostly described in first thread.

Re: More GPS observations

Just to confirm what i had said yesterday, I am currently in albany ny and google has me about a mile from where i am after running for about 10 min with no sat locks... Seems agps might be working here but there are very few cell sites in albany (only like 3 or 4 from sprint) so this is prob why it is not really working. When i am home next weekend down in Queens i will double check to see how much better it is. Last week when i was home it had me at a half mile in about 5-10 seconds and then about 150 feet from my housae in about 30.( In queens there are cell sites like every 10 blocks or half a mile because of the population, so i think this is why it performs much better).

You do not have to rename the GPS drivers if you first unload the devices driver.

If you unload them (original CAB) then it will remove the service registration. But I'm not sure the service is even needed any more (GPSDaemonService which I currently have disabled AutoStart). I didn't know what else the orginal CAB did either that might get undone.

There is a new CAB floating around too but I was not sure if it assumed kickstart and didn't want to run it. So I just replaced the DLL's by hand. After I better understand the new CAB I'll probably unload and reload using new CAB. There should be 2 Cabs one with Kickstart and one without. But I need to read more.

If the procedure ain't broke don't fix it
