Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
Spetrillo.
correct me if I'm wrong but from your messages I understand that if I'm coming from the stock rom and I want to be able to use the GPS with standalone nav apps , I SHOULDN'T let cutomizations run when installing the leaked rom? will I still need to use the aGPS fix? will iGO pick up the port or will I have to use that virtual port proggy? |

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
I've been following this thread for a while now and I have read every post. I'm still running the stock rom on my XV6900 and I'm ready to try out the leaked rom. I understand that if I allow the VZW customizations to run they will lock down the GPS and I will have to use the Valhalla GPS Server to allow third-party aps access to the GPS. But if I don't allow them to run then I can use the aGPS fix from XDA-developers to enable the GPS. But what are the other benefits and drawbacks of allowing the customizations to run versus not allowing them to run? Right now I'm leaning toward allowing them to run and using the Valhalla GPS server because I assume this would be a more stable "stock" configuration. Is this correct? Is there other stuff I'm going to miss out on if I allow the customizations to run?
Sorry if this is a noob question - this is all new stuff for me and there is a ton of info to absorb. Thanks! |

Now onto your question. As one who has let the customizations run I can tell you that it has changed the hardware setup in some way, so that the GPS now is showing on COM5 in the QPST diag but apps still see on COM4. Not sure how that happened and why it has happened. I am still struggling with getting to some stable predictable base. My suggestion to you is to stay away from this leaked ROM unless you absolutely want to experiment. It is quite stable, fast, and battery life is really good, but I am not sure if newbies want all this furstration. Steve |

I don't have a data plan and I don't intend on getting on, I have iGO with maps i copied onto the microsd card and the method above will not allow you to use the GPS with those programs, that's where I think things got confusing in the middle of this thread, people started asking about tomtom/iGO and then additional software and mods were needed to bypass the GPS limitaions, the most updated tip I know is that if you intend on using the GPS with standalone GPS software then you SHOULDN'T let customizations run, the rest of the process should still be the same. I'd still love to hear if you get any further updates and enlightments about it Amir |
