Re: OFFICIAL Telus 6.1 ROM w/GPS and Rev. A - R 3.41.00, D 3.07
I just did the 'upgrade'. Had the same problem. No dice on the GPS.
I looked on another thread on XDA - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...me=TitanGpsFix and followed the directions there - I turned on ALL of the "Capabilities", in ADDITION to "Spherical". GPS is working. I have 2 - 3 plus one WEAK lock. Not quite what I was expecting, having seen claims of 8 - 10 which I find hard to believe unless you're living in the FLAT country. Still, it isn't too bad. I have 6 - 7 locks with my Holux 236, one of which is STRONG. Anyway try toggling the settings from that post and see what happens. Back up your config BEFORE changing, just in case. I forgot to do that but all is well. As a side note, I poked around a bit and changed my "Banner" from TELUS to a custom one. It shows up on the dialing screen for the phone. Kinda neat. I guess it COULD be used as a quick means of proving your phone is yours and it does have the cool factor to it. Good Luck and thanks GFR for picking up where Telus/HTC left us dangling. EDIT: DOH! Now that I've got it working, I'm looking for ways to improve reception. I've been watching the signal strength and observed that the signal is weak and fades for a few seconds once in awhile. Then I noticed this post in THIS thread while verifying to see if I missed anything. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...9&postcount=57 I need my eyes checked! Sometimes, if you just reset the phone, it will correct itself. I had the same problem when i had my Touch |

Re: OFFICIAL Telus 6.1 ROM w/GPS and Rev. A - R 3.41.00, D 3.07
Thanks for the reply. I'll try that and see. I haven't played with it yet. I NEVER have the time during the day to look at it. I never considered that as a cause because I soft reset my phone daily. I'll try a SR and turn on the GPS right away and see what happens. I find it funny that the functioning is so sporadic with my phone and yet others claim good functionality.
UPDATE: Okay, I did as you suggested. Soft Reset. Aside from today screen apps, nothing loaded. Turned on GPS. Loaded Google Maps. GM searching for satellites. The little crosshair on the GPS today screen started flashing. I don't know whether that means it's trying to connect or if GM is communicating with it. I have GM set to "let windows automatically manage my settings". I was in my garage with the door open when I started this. At 2 minutes, I went and sat outside. At 5 minutes, GM gave the error message. I set it to retry. At that time, I turned on my Holux 236 which was in the car and it got a lock in a minute and a half - COLD START! At 7 minutes I gave up on my phone, came inside and logged into PPCGEEKS to cry. Anyone else have any suggestions? Last edited by shoe; 09-12-2008 at 10:56 PM. Reason: Update |

Re: OFFICIAL Telus 6.1 ROM w/GPS and Rev. A - R 3.41.00, D 3.07
YAY! I'm going to reply to my own message! Haha! Maybe I'll "Thank" myself after!
Okay.. I went back into QPST and messed around thinking that there was some kind of relationship between it and my GPS working or not. I had my GPS working twice and it BOTH times were after I was fiddling. I don't see how that could affect things really but I figured, WTH? Now... The settings in the original post here are as follows... Allowed = checked Assistanc-Spherical = checked PDE IP Address = 216.198.139.92 PDE Port Number = 8889 PDE Transport = IP Position Calculation = PDE When comparing it to the settings for the Titan from the XDA Titan post, I noticed a difference. PDE Transport = DBM *NOT* IP So, I tried it... I also ran the "a1jatt_Enable_Smart_GPS" cab which is supposed to make a registry change that will enable smart gps. What the change is or does, I don't know. The end result is locks on 7 - 9 satellites in my house within 7 - 20 seconds. I've soft reset 5 times to make sure and it seems to be running okay! I missed this before because the Titan page has screenshots of QPST and narrative says to ONLY to check the boxes and NOT to do anything else. If you look at the screenshot, you'll see the difference in the settings. Even the original XDA post I read has the same setting as the posts here and everywhere else with PDE Transport = IP. I don't know if it was the PDE Transport change in QPST, the registry settings or a combination of both but it works now! XDA post with links to the registry mod and Titan fix can be found HERE Hope this helps anyone else with a problem similar to mine. |

Re: OFFICIAL Telus 6.1 ROM w/GPS and Rev. A - R 3.41.00, D 3.07
Hey Shoe,
Glad to hear you got it working finally. I was going to suggest the registry fix by setting "EnableGPSSmart" to 1 (from 0). It's under HKLM -> Software -> HTC -> SUPL AGPS. You installed the fix that evidently does the same thing, but I think all of the other stuff you did was probably unnecessary! (= Following the instructions in the first post + the reg fix has worked when I've set it up on three HTC Touch's. The first post should be updated to include this IMO. Enjoy your GPS man, Cheers! |

I think you're right. I think the patch did it but in any event, it works. I haven't REALLY used it yet but I just wanted to know that it's THERE and I have the option. It tends to wander and isn't as accurate as my Holux but hey, it's onboard so it's all good. Thanks for your replies folks!

Google maps gets its maps from Google over the internet if you do not want to use the internet you will need a free standing GPS program which has the maps included.
