Re: Losing Faith in Windows Mobile 6.xx

I'm in the same boat...My girlfriend just got a BB Tour (9630) and she's been letting me play with it quite a bit. It's really made me realize how frustrated I am with my Touch Pro and Windows Mobile in general. I feel like it's years behind every other smartphone device available--epic fail Microsoft. Even as promising as WinMo7 sounds, I wonder if it's going to be too late for it to get a strong foothold.

I really enjoyed my Touch Pro. I liked playing with new builds of WinMo 6.5 as they've been leaked, but it seems like as some bugs get fixed, new ones are introduced...while leaving some major issues alone (ringtone delay for one). Now I'm getting to the point where I just want something that works without any hassle. Maybe something that I can still make a hobby out of if I chose to, but WinMo just isn't enjoyable for me anymore. I think I'm going to look into getting a Pre or Hero...something that will hopefully require less maintenance.

Re: Losing Faith in Windows Mobile 6.xx

While I agree that the TP has been a love / hate (and sometimes REALLY hate) relationship, the main thing that bothers me is the build quality.

On my Samsung smartphone I never had a Port that died, keyboard that stops working, chrome that flakes off like crazy, loose slider action, tremedously buggy OS, GPS lag (although I didn't have GPS)...

I know WM is going to have issues when I buy a WM phone. Also, what can you expect... there wasn't much competition until only a few years ago. MS will put a better product out soon because of the iPhone and Android, so I am hopeful.

I think for me, I'll wait for a WM7 phone and get another samsung (or even a WM nokia!!). Maybe the Omnia 3 will be out by then, but until then this chipped chrome 200 degree brick of love will sit in my pocket, slowly scalding me to death.

to me it sounds like you answered your own question right there... go get the touch pro2 when it comes out... and when win7 comes out get that... sounds like you go through phones pretty quickly, so get er done

Re: Losing Faith in Windows Mobile 6.xx

It's the user interface that is so lacking. They've been focused on the business aspect for far too long. If you wait until 12 year olds are running around with BB's to realize that consumers want smartphones too - you're too late.

As far as capability goes I don't think WinMo is that far behind in fact I think it's actually pretty great thanks to the dev community behind it. They are dug in pretty deep due to the business side of MS - exchange servers, etc. and that is their saving grace for now.

If WinMo can be tweaked to run decently, that tells me a large part of the blame is with the carriers being lazy. I took my stock Sprint Touch Diamond and gave it a static 24MB pp and it was actually pretty nice. All I know is that Win 7 had better be nothing short of amazing if they want to turn things around. But in reality, I have a feeling they are going to try to ride the line between business and consumer and it's only going to come half-way.

I agree the TP has had some annoying issues, especially with over heating

But before thinking about blackberries, BlackBerry Application Suite is coming to WinMo, and it has been tested on the TP

Personally, it looks like a pretty cool =D>

Guys nothing is wrong with your phones, clean out your ROM real well, do about five hard resets with stock ROM, Your TP will be like new again... Take your time and do this, it works like a charm....

going back to stock can fix problems that may have occurred while doing all of your custom flashings.

if you have a problem and it is still there when u flash a different rom, this is usually the solution.

i think 5 was an exaggeration...?

I've never had a real problem with my TP except getting my GPS to work properly with custom roms. I've been pretty happy with it. Maybe I'm just doing less with it? Its my phone, schedule, and ebook reader, and occasionally a gps unit.

I understand that, but can't I hard reset from my custom rom before I put on another??
