Re: Getting desperate now

For me the biggest change was turning off push email and any auto - email checking. That extended my battery life considerably..making it last almost 4-5 hours longer than normal. I've also heard that changing the settings in phone > menu > options > services > time synchronization can help as well...apparently is makes it so your phone automatically checks the network to sync the time. I doubt it saves much battery...but every little bit counts.

For me...an extra battery is currently unneccesary because I am ALWAYS near a charger...I have them littered around my house, at work...whereever. However, I plan on using my phone much more since I have recently become a facebook/twitter ***** (lol) and I also plan on using it to geocache. I have become big on twittering pictures with my GPS loc. tagged so that people can see what I am doing whenever I want them to...I love it! So...an extra battery seems inevitable.

Talking Re: Getting desperate now

Like everyone else, I have been scouring the forums for anything that will improve battery life. My friend constantly reminds me that's the way it is in the CDMA world. Just idling, no push mail, check 2 gmail accounts automatically every 30 minutes and light usage otherwise, I lose about 10%/hour. And it can discharge much faster if I up my usage in any area.

I've tried different ROM's, different radios, updated my PRL and all of the other things everyone else has done. Currently, I'm running a ROM I cooked in eRice's kitchen and it's giving me the best performance I've had in awhile, but I'm still not certain that I have figured out the best radio/rom/etc. combination for where I live (Denver, CO). If anyone local has some experience to share, throw it out there.

I have a cradle with a spare battery at work and I'm about to get another for home with a couple more batteries too.

I still love my TP. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Checking the both of them every 30 minutes may be worse for the battery than just keeping push enabled. I'd recommend SEVEN but as far as I know, you will still get hit with international text messages at 20 cents each... On the other side, I averaged about 10 a month, so not a huge charge, really.

With Juicy's ROM and the Telus radio, if my phone sits idle all day, I've had it as high as 91% still... this is 9am-7pm we're talking about. If I use it to text and stuff lightly through the day, it will average 70%... if I use it to browse sites and look stuff up, it's often considerably lower. Calls really kill the battery too.

Same situations, but with SEVEN running... instead of 91% I'd be around 74% through a whole day of sitting idle. The other things like texting would cause the battery to drop about equally, but browsing sites and stuff seemed then to have less of an impact. I still could easily make it a day, often more.

The thing about battery life is that it really depends on how you use your phone. If you really can't make it through the day, carry two batteries and pick up a charger that will charge both at the same time... pop them on the charger overnight and you're good to go.

Re: Getting desperate now

This is just a band-aid to a seemingly gaping wound, but have you tried changing:

HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\Battery and set PollInterval to Decimal 20000

In KK's rom, he actually has this set to 25000. It's how often your phone polls the battery. Increasing it, means less polls and less system processes, which leads a little bit better battery life (although your battery percentage won't be quite as accurate on a second by second basis but still close enough).

Re: Getting desperate now

I was thinking about GC's roms. Do you guys know if a clean rom would help the battery life any?

Re: Getting desperate now

Said it in another thread and I will say it again. Some of these batteries are just defective right from the start. One reason I have heard is because of the magnetic backing of the TP. Magnets and batteries are not a good combo and I really wonder why they did this.

The first TP I got was crap. The battery died about 12 hours after a full charge and I wasnt really using the phone that much, just setting up my voicemail and setting message/email preferences etc..Took it back and got a new TP, has worked great. Battery lasts about 36 hours with moderate usage, 24 or so with heavy.

Does no one ever think of just taking the phone back for a new one?

Re: Getting desperate now

So you're saying that it might be the phone itself that's causing the battery drain?

Re: Getting desperate now

just face it...off one battery your looking for the impossible.. you wont get the result what your looking for.. your asking too much.. at this point in time do you want a nice vivid color vga touch screen device or do u want a 50dollar phone thall not do anything but last ya 2 days?

take me for instance, i use the hell out of my phone.. 3 emails that pull every 5 minutes, 10,000 texts a month, constant screen wake ups, and i live in a bad coverage area... i know that the way i use my phone causes my shortened battery life.. i just accept it, and look for the next cool trick for my phone like everyone else

youll notice everyone of the things youve tried others have tried with just a tiny bit of success as well... all of us have the same issues with battery life, just learn to accept the fact that u need an extra charger and spare battery at best LOL

Re: Getting desperate now

it sounds like the phone is bad.

my 2nd tp will last easy a week with no use at all, but only the radio turned on.

my 1st tp will last about a day with minimal use. with heavy txting or a few hours of talking 2+ it'll die and need to be charged at least twice

so its definitely the phone unless you're using it ALL the time.

my settings are turn off back light after 30 seconds, turn off device after 1 min, i use lumos to automatically adjust my backlight level.

i've switched roms recently and did notice better life with silence 3 rom... but i figured it was because the rom runs leaner... so it doesn't have so many instances running thus draning power

anyhow get another phone and keep the batteries. if you wanna sell the after market ones you bought send me a PM and maybe we can work out a decent price
