Re: How do you like your Touch Pro?
I just switched from a mogul. I really miss all my buttons, and the jog wheel.
The d-pad on the TP only goes up and down, yes it is touch sensitive, but I have contacts with 4 or 5 numbers, I just like to be able to press left or right to get to where i want to go. I can look, know I have to go left 3 times, or what not to get to the correct number. Now I have to learn that a whole different way. The jog wheel and OK button I really miss a lot. Finding a contact, scrolling pages and menu's were great with the jog wheel. The okay button was a good all around exit, or menu answer. Now you have to click on the OK with the stylus. Yes, it's a touch screen, but you know how hard it is to hit that little okay box while your driving with your finger or thumb? I would much rather have the home button and the back button turned into start and okay, like the mogul. I haven't really got to experience the touch sensitivity of the d-pad yet. It seems like its usage, zoom, is really more irritating to me. I constantly zoom by accident. I rarely want to zoom in and out that easily, and didn't mind using a menu to do it in opera before, it was simple and quick, and i knew my results by a numbered percentile. The middle button the d-pad seems like a pretty neat all around button. Very nice action on it. I'm happy with that button. The call button and the end button. They really need to stop associating things like "flight mode" or "menu" with these buttons. Call should always bring up the phone screen, and the end button more of an exit, like other phones, and end call only!!!! for a 600 dollar phone, I do not need to hold the end key to turn airplane mode on. I'll most likely have plenty of time to use my stylus before I get on the plane. Oh, you like to do it in your pocket, so you don't get calls? TURN THE VOLUME DOWN! Sorry, I'll get back on track. The touch screen is nice, but stiff by the edges, which is okay i suppose. I really need to put on my screen protector ASAP. The carrying case cleans the screen slightly when you pull it in our out. This is probably the best bundled case I've seen yet for a PPC phone. The Mogul cases were garbage. Don't use magnets to close a flap for a 500 dollar phone. WTF?! I'm disappointed in the belt clip though, it comes off far to easy. I've almost lost the phone a few times bumping against something. Camera Rocks. I noticed its G-Sensitive as well. the G-sensor is friggen so touchy! Rock on! I wish i still did construction so i could use the calibration tool to level my products, haha. that would be awesome. My only other complaint I have about this is the stylus sucks. I wish it was a full body stylus. This one is still to small, and the end is plastic, I can feel it breaking in my hand already. The magnetic part is pretty sweet. I have my spare stuck to something here on my desk so it wont get lost. And the magnetic hold in is very nice and sleek too. The abiilty to turn off features regarding the stylus in or out is nice as well. Questions, comments? Please PM I'll try and check back for responses. This is a big thread. I avoid them mostly. Almost forgot. I Would switch to my mogul if i had to, but the phone is so damn clunky with its lack of rom. So even with the extra keys, I'll be keeping my TP, because it has more possibilities and functionality. For anyone complaining about the back creeking, this problem I don't have, but I have seem some threads regarding it. I think there is a sticky on XDA for it. I believe its the coating on the back of the phone causing it. Dont quote me, I didn't read the thread. Last edited by Talyn; 11-08-2008 at 11:34 AM. |

But I think answering these should help a few others with their pain. The slider is loose. Yes. It sucks! It's not really bad though. The slide action is fairly nice. Yes, the volume buttons are disappointing. HTC should have done better. But this could be part of the design. I've broke the slide on my last mogul. It still works fine, but slides funny now. Charger cable issue. I do not know why you are upset about this! They finally included a cable with this phone that has the correct USB connection on the end!!!!!!! I'm so friggen happy about that. I hate adapters. HATE HATE HATE. I ruined data connections from all the plugging and unplugging I did with my mogul. This one fits in firm and tight. So nice, as a fact, that i usually unplug from the computer instead of the phone now when things mess up with whatever i'm doing, usually active sync being lame. The reason they did it the way they did is because the style charger they sent was probably easier to make then a seperate one with the correct connection on it. Just do what I do, I use my old MOGUL adapter, and plug it on a standard USB charger, that way your not dorking up anything if the connection isn't fitting well into the phone. =) I carry my TP charger in the briefcase, it doesnt' clutter things up like a normal one. and for volume. I've noticed every phone i've talked on except a nextel is never loud enough. All my motorola flips from nextel were quite louder. IMO for speaker volume on ALL phones is that I shoudln't have to always use MAX volume for calls. I think that somewhere in mediumville should be plenty loud, then if i get a quiet call i can still kick it up a notch. So, dont complain about something that is bad on all phones. Yes, HTC should fix it. But you can easily fix this problem on the user end with hacks. You shouldn't have to, but some things are better left in the hands of private developers who have more time and expereince then these people shucking out these phones. |

Lots of ram, lots of processor!!!! This is a HUGE step I think. I love the ram, love love love. But there is a bit much cluttering the phone still, so I can't wait to flash a new rom on. Going to go for JD's later. |

How to use the D-Pad to go left & right: Instead of pushing on the ring of the D-pad, push the area AROUND the D-pad to go in the direction you need it to go. For Left: Click almost in between Home & Call. For Right: Click almost in between Back & End. I'll see if I can't draw a little Pic and post it. |

Re: How do you like your Touch Pro?
I have to say I love this phone. It addressed all the perceived shortcomings of my mogul and then some.
I bought at BB the day they were available. I bought two. The one I happened to end up with has been problem free. I installed AudioPara-lite for the low volume issue and that solved it perfectly. I installed SecondToday so I could run PocketBreeze on the second today screen and mapped the softkeys to make switching easy. The phone does not heat up excessively and charges properly. The screen is awesome and web pages look great after I did the 'desktop PC' hack'. The second phone I bought for my son at the same time. He had a problem with the phone locking up during charging, random freezes, and bad sound. A couple of days after the phones release, I read here, on the truly wonderful PPCgeeks TP forums, that you should probably hard reset a new phone. I helped him use PPCpimbackup to backup his contacts to the storage card and we hard reset his phone. After the hard reset, his phone has been perfect. No more freezes or lockups, and the sound problem just went away, though we installed the same AudioPara because he wanted it a little louder and now he doesn't have to max out the volume to hear it. I am sure there are people who have problems with their TPs, but I can say that I've never had a phone so, um, complete. I like everything about it. I feels better, more solid in my hand. Bluetooth works perfectly and I have 5 different devices in my BT list. I can hear the ringer and the phone in the noisiest places I go to, which, being a stagehand, are pretty noisy. All in all, I can say that I like most waited for this phone for a long time and so far, it hasn't disappointed at all.
