I can confirm the VZW Touch Pro is identical hardware-wise to the Sprint model. They had one at our store today.

#198 - And "our" store is what? A Verizon Wireless store? Verizon Wireless authorized retailer?

How exactly did you check the processor/chipset/memory? Was the keyboard the same? The pictures we've seen of the Verizon unit have an arrow key between the N and M, was that there?

Official store. Processor and memory was checked via WM's About window.

My duties at work include performing activations for some of our customers who choose Verizon Wireless (also Sprint, AT&T, and others if they want), primarily data cards. Today I got no less than 3 emails detailing equipment price cuts and deals from today thru 11/15. I scoured them for any news about the TP, but came up empty.

Couple things I did find interesting are that the 6700 is still available in the channel for $99 on a 2-year contract and the G-phone sucks sales talking points memo mentioned on Engadget Mobile:

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/1...nt-buy-the-g1/

Not a peep about the TP, but lots about the Blackberry Storm, which EM also rumors that VZW is positioning it against the iPhone with aggressive pricing ($99!) thru the holidays. I didn't look closely at pricing for the Storm (since that's not what I'm interested in), but will take a peek again on Monday to see if I can confirm it:

Re: Verizon HTC TOUCH PRO Information

Crit,

Tony V. is definitely right. Thanks a million for the info. And be careful.

Your job is way more important than us finding out a few specs early.

Thanks again! Best insider info I've ever come across!

Re: Verizon HTC TOUCH PRO Information

Checked out Sprint's TP yesterday. I walked away with mixed feelings.

On the plus side:
- That VGA resolution is absolutely awesome. You have to see it to appreciate it.
- The overall size of the phone. I expected it to be thicker, but it really wasn't all that bad.
- Build quality seems pretty good.

Not too impressed by:
- The responsiveness. It wasn't as "snappy" as I expected it to be. I suspect TF3D will get annoying pretty quickly.
- The QWERTY on-screen keyboard in portrait mode is a challenge with that tiny screen. It works, but you have to type sloooowly and precisely.
- No landscape mode in email/text unless you slide out the keyboard?? At least I did not find out how. It should have simply flipped to landscape, with or without the keyboard slid out.
- The hardware keyboard has virtually no tactical feedback. I looks great, but I found it difficult to accurately type on compared to e.g. Q or Q9, or a Treo 700/800/Pro.

I think I'll sit this one out and wait for the Diamond and the Saga to appear as well...then make my choice.

So, Verizon is bashing T-Mobile's G1 for only having 128 MB of ram, yet is planning to reduce the TP ram from 256 to 128 to save money?

I agree... they need to practice what they preach.

Hypocrites.

I don't think anyone knows that's definitely the case yet. It's all rumors at this point, let's see what specs Verizon releases the TP with.

Re: Verizon HTC TOUCH PRO Information

Lets look at the previous models that HTC has released for Verizon.
Was the hardware crippled on the 6700,6800 and the 6900?

No, but the issue at hand is the Touch Pro... The timing of their comment couldn't have been worse.

That's not 128MB of system ram, that's 128MB of storage ram for programs to store on the device (G1). There is a difference. Like our sprint TP's we have 288MB system ram, 256 ram + 32 ram for video = 288. Then, we have 270MB free storage ram for programs. 270MB ram is what I had at least. Not sure for everyone else. But I would at least wait to see what VZW's actual specs are....might be different or it might be the same. Personally, I think the G1 is alot like the samsung instinct. All hype with very limited usability. I like that it's open source but that can cause alot of problems (stability, viruses, etc.) Plus I think the G1 is as fugly as fugly gets.
