Verizon HTC TOUCH PRO Information

Due to this is becoming a big question to alot of users I am starting this thread to provide information on the device as I did with Sprints model.

Big Question?:

First Big questions is will the phone be crippled? From the Spec sheet we have from verizon yes. But here is the kicker! The test model verizon provided is using a 7501a chipset. Makes you curious correct? After discussing this with verizon earlier this past week, it was explained that DOWNGRADING the device may lead to less sales and conflicts ( I think we all agree with this one! ).

Whats Currently going on?:

Verizon is currenlty in discussion about NOT crippling the phone. Now if this was the case then verizon would need a new FCC approvel. Would this take long? Nope. Would there be a delay? Yes. Now the reason for verizon discussing this is due to the fact of previous issues and crippling other phones and options.

Whats the Possibility?:

As of right now this currenlty in discussion, so there is a 50/50 chance of the verizon phone not being crippled. But why send a test model with a different chipset? When I asked this question all that was said was it was a TEST model for review. Of course my statment was then when do we receive the DEMO model for testing and troubleshooting? Late Oct to early Nov.

The Plan?:

I will keep this updated with all information and also once we receive the DEMO model from verizon.

Please understand the qualcomm core can be used at multiple frequencies based on the oscillator input to it. Overclocking is always possible, but the crystal on board will determine the core freq always.

Correct, its possible for the processor to be underclocked, I will have our engineneer use the program provide via qualcomm for testing to see if this is accurate or if this is the case. As of now all options are open

I hope so - Wife works for Verizon Wireless so she gets a good discount. So I had no choice but to leave Sprint for Verizon.....didn't take long to see that the PPC selection for Verizon is a good month or more behind the rest of the world...then to read about VZ's history of nerfing phones........

Big delema - she does get a great employee discount so I really have no choice.....

Perhaps the reason for Verizon to underclock the speed is to extend the battery life without having to resort to bulking up the weight and size of the phone with a larger capacity battery. Actually, it would be nice to have a utility to dynamically configure the speed so, for example, if I'm not running anything graphics or CPU taxing I can set it to miser mode to extend the battery life. Six hours into the work day with three hours left and with some VPN and RDP testing I'm at 6/10 on battery. With that theoretical CPU utility I can set a custom VPN/RDP profile to use 60% CPU to extend battery life.

Pics of the VX6850 are up at PhoneArena.

It sucks that the VX6850 is losing some keyboard buttons like Tab, Ctrl and a second Shift button, but I do like that Verizon colored in the talk/end buttons green and red.

I must admit, I am curious as to what prompted the keyboard design as displayed on phone arena. Specifically, the 10 columns on the Verizon version, as opposed to the 12 on the Sprint. Also, the up arrow key between the N and M keys?

Most of the keys on the verizons (on the left) keyboard look a little bigger than sprints (to the right):

One thing I notice that verizon did right when compared to the sprints model is they put direction arrows on the dpad, i think thats important because its actually showing you where to press on the dpad properly. alot of people have a problem pressing the sprint dpad left or right and this because they don't know how to press it properly. anyway I want to see the back tho! I would be happy for verizon for once if they actually get this phone right and don't cripple a phones potential for once. but that said I would never go back to that company lol, but still i would be proud if they do the right thing lol.
