If I were you, I would start swapping now. There is no limit to how many times you can swap, but if you run into your 30-day limit, you might not get a chance to find a working TP.

When you swap it, don't they charge you $600 for the new phone and they say they will reimburse you once the replacement comes in...how long does it take before you get your money back? i don't entirely trust sprint CS to take care of this without F*ing it up...Is there anyway for them to send you a replacement without charging your account 6 big ones?

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

Well, this is just downright depressing. I'm all but ready to get a Sprint TP and activate for Verizon, but now it turns out overheating - not keyboard layout and RAM - is the biggest deal breaker.

Is there any chance this heat problem can be fixed via software?

Is there real reason to think there are "working" ones? So far I think I've seen only one poster claim they had the problem (i.e. knew what to look for) and a swap/exchange unit was good (and they did not really give details or follow up).

Yawn. This thing will probably be going back pretty soon.
If we can conclude only one thing it's that HTC has a real serious quality control problem. What scares me is thinking how much more expensive this phone would be with proper QC. I assume HTC already ran those numbers and it would have been priced WAY out of the market. Or *shudder* they ARE charging the right amount for better QC, but pocketing the difference.

You walk into a Sprint store and complain. Walk out with new TP, assuming they have one in stock. No cost.

Possible? Yes. Likely to happen soon? Not a chance. Likely to NEVER happen? Possibility

People say on a daily basis on this forum that their phones don't heat up. Either they are blatantly lying, or their phones really don't heat up. That's why we figure that swapping will help the problem.

If you were a greedy corporation, what would you do? There is no F-ING way this phone costs nearly as much as they sell it for, including parts/labor/R&D. $799? Are you kidding me? I have noticed that almost no one has mentioned how ridiculously-expensive this phone is. Especially since our forums were littered with people laughing/rubbing in the similar cost of the iPhone when it was released. It was also quite a bit more stable, with very little hardware defects.

BUILD DATE: 11/7/2008

Here are some tests I just ran on some phone calls:

Time: 2:10pm -> 2:25pm
Length: 15 minutes
Signal: 20-50%
Charger: None
BT: On, discoverable. Not actively used during call.
WIFI: Off
Speaker Used: Earpiece
Battery Temp: 92F
Radio Temp: 106F
Battery cover temperature: Not checked
Screen temperature: Not checked

5 minutes after:
Screen: Auto/dimmed, (inside.)
Charger: Stock
Battery temp: 89.5F
Radio temp: 98F
Battery cover temp: 95F
Screen temp: 87F
Data session: Connected/Inactive

Time: 2:44pm -> 3:00pm
Length: 16 minutes
Signal: 30-40%
Charger: Stock
BT: On, discoverable. Not actively used during call.
WIFI: Off
Speaker Used: Speaker
Screen: Auto/not dimmed, (inside.)
Battery Temp: 98F
Radio Temp: 128F
Battery cover temperature: 124F
Screen temperature: 90.5F

128F?

128 degree Fahrenheit = 53.3333333 degree Celsius

ridiculous.

I'll do more testing when I have time. I will actually try a 2-hour call.

Hell, I'll need some flame-retardant clothing, and avoid hairspray, that's for sure.

I really had high hopes for this phone. Waiting for months. I don't know what I will do...

So-called "corporate greed" is a bit of a misnomer, imo. I don't want to get into a big ethical/economic debate but in a free market, greed shouldn't really be possible. You simply vote with your dollars. If no one is buying the TP, the price will drop, I guarantee it. It is priced at what the market will bear, simple as that. That's how the free market and capitalism works and why it works - a good product value rewards the seller with purchases and a bad value does, or should do, the opposite. But when people are motivated soley by having the latest and greatest, or buy their devices to one-up their cube mate and get "looks," then the system fails people who actually care about petty things like functionality.

And speaking of Apple - most consumer electronics would be lucky to be blessed by Apple. All of their products, like it or not, seem to be designed and built to a higher functional standard. NONE of this BS would ever fly on an Apple-branded product. And this is coming from a long time Apple-hater.
