Plus battery life would reach the rating. What I don't understand is that some people's phones seem to be among this normal 60+% efficiency. Or are they?

I doubt it. They are probably so in love with their phones that they deny it. It reminds me of when the iPhone came out, and had issues, (especially the 3G version,) and those people defended it to no-end.

I think more and more people are noticing these problems, and starting to change their minds. I doubt people are as loyal to their WM phones as the Apple fanboys are to their iPhones, because we have so many options. Now, for Sprint users, we don't really have any other option--but we could easily switch to a GSM provider and get the Xperia X1. That thing has some promise.

I think that HTC needs to know that we won't just sit idle and accept this crappy manufacturing and/or design. I sure won't be keeping my new phone if it has the same problems. The best message you can give HTC is with your wallet.

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

I may just return the phone to BB, get my contract back to month to month and wait this thing out... Too expensive to have such problems.

My Treo 755 can talk all day while plugged into the car.

Every phone I've ever heard of, aside from the Touch Pro, can easily do what you describe, while remaining lukewarm, or cooler.

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

Has anyone here ordered the new Touch Pros from Sprint (Manufacture date Post 20th October, you can find this by hitting ##786# from your phones)? Do they have the same issues as the ones we have...Please report back here so we can decide if it's worth exchanging our phones or simply returning them etc...

If you want to do this then you have to keep the phone cool. there is nothing wrong and no need for a petition.

Using the above quote I can see that the phone is plugged in while using bluetooth and cell radio + speakerphone?
Of course it is going to generate too much heat and stop charging.
that is what it is SUPPOSED to do.
That is bull****. Wether or not it can be used while charging is not the issue here. There is absolutely no reason that the phone cannot be run off the charger without having to charge the battery.

There are much better ways to scam Sprint, and I thought they were supposed to do a hard reset to see if that fixes the problem.

For some reason People keep missing the point. So I will reiterate it again with an additional bit of data. My previous phone used 0.4 W of power to generate 0.27W of RATED MAXIMUM TRANSMISSION ENERGY.

The Touch pro based on your data (and the data I have collected) Uses 2W to generate 0.29 W of RATED MAXIMUM TRANSMISSION ENERGY.

That is the point that we are trying to get across to HTC/SPRINT. That gross an inefficiency is what is causing the over heating and needs to be addressed. Whether you think your unit gets hot or not is a matter of perception. However, to use 2 W to transmit 0.29 W of energy (maximum) is CRAZY!

This same issue has been noted in the diamond which was released nearly TWO MONTHS ago. If Sprint/HTC took this seriously, they would have a fix for the Diamond (and likewise the TP) already.
Okay, so the real issue here is the radio. Still, a petition isn't going to do crap. If we come up with a good template for a letter, explaining this issue, the findings, and what they should do to fix it (release a better radio), and everyone with the problem sends it in, that will do much more good. The pdf posted had some typos in it, so whatever letter is agreed upon should be proofread by a few people before anyone sends it out.

Well, I wouldn't do it. Doesn't help with reception any, and ironically, can lead to lower signal levels and higher heat generation.

Hmm.................. petition wont work. There are over 15000 sigs over at htcclassaction petition for the missing drivers and that did not go nowhere. HTC cares less... best thing to do is to swap it untilk your satisfied.

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

I just got a new Touch Pro from telesales, and the build quality is the worst of any of them. I haven't powered it on yet, but man. The buttons feel like they are broken, below the screen.

Re: Petition?: We need to get HTC to fix this heat/charging issue!!

Just got the new phone activated:

- Chrome has dents in it
- Build quality is worse than a Ford Pinto
- Screen is A LOT BETTER than my other 3.
- Talk/End keys barely work, some sort of physical failure/problem with that whole rocker mechanism.

....

but....

It's already warmer than my Touch gets during a 2 hour phonecall, and it's not doing anything but charging, and restoring my contacts from PIM backup. No calls, no text, nothing.

Yawn. This thing will probably be going back pretty soon.
