Preliminary tests after 24 hours shows that I'm getting decent battery life. I've used wifi for 1 hr, 1 hr of cellular data, ~20 minutes of calling, ~2 hours of just messing with phone, ~50 sms. I'm still at 20% and it's been exactly 24 hours. Here's my setup:

1. Disabled TF3d
2. Disabled "receive all incoming beams" under settings -> connection
3. Disabled gsps / location settings under phone settings
4. Have phonealarm
5. I don't have any custom tweaking apps installed nor do I the audiopara (phonealarm appears to have a fix to increase volume)
6. Backlight is always set on auto adjust
7. Average radio signal is 75%
8. Soft reset only once
9. Peeps who receive a lot of SMS and don't check them as they come might also want to try looking for an entry in their registry DisableSMSWakeUpEvent and setting it to 0 so as to prevent device from waking up upon SMS receipt.
I wonder why they had #2 enabled when it doesnt have infrared. Never dawned on me to check that setting. But thanks for the tip.

There is probably different manufacturers for them, that's where the difference comes in.

Re-exchanging your phone for something like a heat problem will not solve the heat problem. It's pretty apparent in all phones. A few people report they don't have heat problems. If they are so well enthused about it, let me have it, I'll show you how to heat them up. You actually have to use the phone pretty hard.

Running on 1x network like I does causes more heat, I don't have EVDO available. I found this out from traveling. EVDO Connection uses less battery and creates less heat. If others have experienced different. We should discuss it.

There is only one problem with the mogul though, It doesn't have enough ram. The 6700 is the same way. And every phone before it.
And each firmware release they make for the phone sucks up more and more ram. My 6800 is about useless with the latest 6.1. I cannot wait to flash a rom from here or xda to make it run better.

It's not always the people designing the phones who make these decisions. I'm sure they would do things the way we do. Make a champ device for everyone! but boards and managers say they have to put the garbage on there, or make it look more "sleek" to catch certain peoples eyes.
I'd rather have an ugly tablet phone with lots of functionality. Function over form for me. and the Mogul has that. The TP is more of a pretty phone with a lot of functionality.
People get down on companies like HTC, who is building lots of phones, for things like poor buttons and such.
Yea, the buttons are not the greatest. But does anyone here actually know how hard it is to set things up to make parts in a CNC machine? Or do injection molding? Build a circuit board with a robot?
The only thing that companies can fix is having a User, or somebody who doesn't have an engineering degree come to help design and test these things. Somebody who is critical and doesn't have a corporate eye.
Untill that happens. We will have issues like overheating, or poor screens in some of the products. The quality controll isn't in the mind of the corporate movement. Look at our cars now days. =)

If you have a bad screen in your phone, return the sucker!
if its over heating. Then your doing something right. =)

Not trying to bash ya scrap. =)
Just got me worked up. I like most of your posts, so its all good.
But you are correct. We shouldn't have to deal with this stuff. But then, we shoudlnt' have to deal with a crappy economy, blah blah. I'm just saying things are hard and its the way of life.
God, I hope that it's not ALL the Touch Pros that have this overheating issue. I want this phone so bad, and my company will pay for ANY phone I want, on ANY carrier... The Pro looks to be the best, right now, but I might have to jump to the Fuze if it seems to have these "quirks," worked out. Plus I could use data and voice at the same time

Re: Update: TP heats up, then battery drains, even while on charger.

I just switched from the Mogul to TP. Having noticed same issues and experienced the stop chrge prblm due to heat. Have also noticed that the heat is concentrated on the upper half of the phone and not the battery itself. Could it be the design of the circuitry that all the heat producing components are packed so tightly together to form a "smaller" package. The Mogul is a brick...but a bigger one. Probably the reason the heat was never a "major" issue...even for power users. Also, I have my phone tethered to my laptop thru out yesterday and today, and have noticed increased heat to the laptop as well. Could this be a battery issue...drawing more current that the circuits can handle? There may be a safety shutdown to the charging due to heat...but can the heat be a by product of a "little over current" problem. Has anyone checked if their in wall charger was "HOT" while charging and during heavy use? Sorry if this was a lot for 2 cents...but something to think about.

PS: Am thinking of modding a thin aluminum pieces to fit to the inside cover of the batt compartment and see if that would help dissipate the heat.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

made it through an entire day (~12 hours) yesterday -- off the charger at 5am, gmail checking every 30 minutes, work email every 60 minutes, google maps for about 10 minutes, beams disabled, auto backlight, battery reg edits run, few phone calls

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

Wow..I had no idea that leaving a lithium-ion battery in a hot car for a few hours could reduce its output permanently by 50%. Yikes.

That would explain the SLIDS (Sudden Lithium-Ion Death Syndrome) that a couple of my laptop batteries experienced a couple of years ago. Laptop left in flaming hot car multiple times, neglected because it was obsolete. After second battery I decided to retire it to a desk job. Amazing that the multiple 140degree heat conditions didn't fry anything else on it.

One problem with getting trustworthy data on Lithium-Ion batteries is that it's a moving target. No one knows how the latest technology is going to handle every conceivable condition, as it takes a year to accurately measure a year. It appears the technology is changing every six months. Here is a good link for charts and info:

Hopefully pretty soon we'll all have ability to power our very own Ironman suits.

Battery Usage Diagnostics

Version 0.2.3.130 (12/8/0

New Features:
WinMo 5 Compatible
QVGA support
Can switch temperature display between C and F

Bug Fix:
Now deletes the downloaded file properly

After slugging through several long days of debugging and testing I have uploaded ver 0.2.1 of the battery log/diagnostics program.

What's new:
added mAH consumption counters for Data and Phone calls
Added a Battery Benchmark Module
Fixed a few miscellaneous bugs.

Benchmark Module details:
This module places the phone in a standard state (screen and backlight on, data connection active and Bluetooth radio on and discoverable). Then performs a 5 minute continuous data download, followed by a 20 minute telephone call. And saves a final report.

One Final note about 0.2.1.105, it does require .netCF 3.5 (http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...CFSetupv35.msi)

Well, After two weeks with the Touch Pro and everything from Great Battery Life (1.5 - 2 days) to being ready to throw it in the Trash (< 8 hrs). I have started doing some diagnostics. I have attached a Beta version of the Battery Log program that I have been using. This is the first stable release, (but please PM me with any bug reports, Also use at your own risk).

I am in the process of analyzing a couple of days worth of logs (which are in CSV format so you can pull them into excel) to see If I can identify what the issues are... At first blush, the transmitters (or more correctly the radio roms) look to be very inefficient drawing nearly 2 W of power for data and phone calls and nearly 1.5 W for bluetooth.

EDIT: While not required, the NuePower battery driver for the Diamond gives you much better battery level resolution....

Here is a quick list of what is logged by the program:

1. a. Date and Time
b. Is AC Charger Attached
c. Battery Voltage
d. Battery Current (Discharge)
e. Battery Temperature
f. Battery level (%)
g. Pertinent System events:
a. Active Application
b. Speaker Phone Activity
c. Phone Radio Off/On
d. Phone Active Data Call (EVDO/1xRTT Activity)
e. No Phone Service
f. Phone Searching For Service
g. Bluetooth Power State On/off
h. Bluetooth Hands Free Audio in use (BT Headphones)
i. Bluetooth Hands Free Control in use (BT HF Headset)
j. WiFi Power On
k. WiFi Connected
l. Bluetooth Connections Count
m. Bluetooth Connections Descriptions
n. Cellular Connections Count
o. Cellular Connections Descriptions
p. Phone Call (Talking)

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

im happy to report that my battery life has DRASTICALLY IMPROVED!!!... i recieved the phone on nov 4 and the batt at the time really sucked. when i intially got the phone i charged to 100% before using it. at the time i would take the phone off the charger at 7am and it would be dead by 1pm with minimal use and the setting down to the lowest level. ever since i got the phone i have been deep cycling the battery and today i noticed a huge improvent. i didnt do any registry hacks. only thing i did was set the screen to automatic light sensor. i took the phone off the charger 820am this morining and the phone is now at 4% at 845pm. i have been using the phone like i regulary do by making calls, lots of txt, internet, gps and showing off my youtube. i also noticed the phone is not getting as hot as it use to.
