TP recharges after a full charge

I was charging my TP overnight yesterday, and at some point throughout the night I looked at it, and the LED was solid white, meaning it was fully charged. I left the phone on the charger, and when I woke up this morning and turned the screen on, it started charging again! Is this normal? It seems that once you leave it on the charger for a certain time at a full charge, it detects that the TP has lost some charge and needs to recharge...

Re: TP recharges after a full charge

I just read in the manual last night (or better yet in the help section of the phone Start->mobile help, in the battery section) that when the battery gets hot for whatever reason, that the phone will stop charging to avoid battery problems... hope that helps...

I think this entire phone was an after-thought. It has a lot of flashy stuff, but none of it is rock-solid. I can't think of one aspect that they really scored a home run on. I am hoping my replacement will fix this problem, but I am not so sure now...

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

I read in the mobile help manual>battery section that the battery is designed to shut off and stop charging if it gets too hot. I think I might return my phone soon if this keeps happening, if I can't use use a $600 "pocket pc" as a basic phone even then it's of little use to me since I do talk on the phone a lot apart from messing with the other phone functions. This is quite a shame. And to think I had a lot of faith in these guys, I'm sure you can do better than this HTC..

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

Just called HTC customer support and the guy took my info down and said "All I can do is help you change your back light settings and battery settings. Your only option is to contact sprint and ask for a new battery" That's just wonderful. Here is the direct number for anyone that needs it. ( 1-866-449-8358 )

Did you already say that you bought yours from Sprint?

I wasn't aware of anyone who bought direct/retail that was having this issue. My EVP contact thinks that the BB stock is just total crap.

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

Yeah I got mine from Sprint directly. Everyone's been having this problem I think (Sprint and BB customers) when it comes to the phone dying while it's on the charger. HTC help manual says that its designed to shut off the battery from charging when it gets "too hot"...strange I really hope they come out with a fix for this, ASAP.

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

As has been already mentioned, actively cooling the unit will solve your problems for the time being. A little bit of air flow around the phone will work wonders. Also, sliding the keyboard open and removing the stylus will help dissipate heat faster. Every TyTN/Tilt/Mogul/etc owner has been doing this for some time. It might not be convenient, but if you're going to be on a two hour call (or tethering for prolonged periods) then a couple of seconds to think about cooling isn't really that big of a deal.

There might be room for some improvements in the radio, but the bottom line is that these tend to be powerful devices that suck a lot of power and produce a lot of heat. Just look at the SAR ratings of most Pocket PC phones, they're always on the high end.

The Pro might not be the perfect device for everyone, but I think if you recognize that there are certain physical limitations regardless of device or manufacturer, you'll be happy with it in the long run. I love mine.

Re: Is the stock charger adequate?

I think there are varying levels of problem here. I notice that my TP gets hot after a lot of use, but not to the point of being unbearable. Specifically, the area under the WESD keys, and on the backside where the camera and LED are. I'm wondering what's there, is it the CPU or the radio hardware.

I've noticed that it gets much hotter than my Mogul(s) ever did, but hey, what do you expect. We've now got radios, a faster CPU, 640x480 screen with GPU... I'm willing to live with it.
