Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

I don't think I've seen it mentioned yet, but IMHO the single biggest factor in battery life, by far, is signal strength.

I don't have a TP yet (I'm waiting for Verizon), but I live in a poor signal area and my Motorola Q with extended battery doesn't even make it through a day of moderate usage. I know this is drastic, but if I set it to CDMA/1x mode only and disable EvDO, it adds about 50% to the battery life. I guess without it in CDMA only mode, it keeps going in and out of EvDO mode and that kills the battery.

I think, in general, that's why there are such differing reports of battery life.

I don't even know if I should get a TP or what I'm going to do. I know anything I get is going to be terrible for me. It's a work provided phone, so I can't go to another carrier, if anyone was going to suggest that.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

Is there an easy way to toggle back and forth between CDMA 1xRTT only mode and regular mode (allowing EVDO)?

I can't get an EVDO signal at home currently anyways, so I might as well disable it to see if i get improved battery life.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

I noticed that my Touch Pro never seems to disconnect from it's Data Connection. My Vogue 6900 Touch would automatically time out after awhile and automatically disconnect after the data connection was idle long enough.

Anyone know of a registry hack to set how long until auto disconnecting from Data connection?

I'm thinking this one might save battery life as well.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

I exchanged mine yesterday at bb. New one is still @ 90% battery after 3 hours with light text/email. The other would be at 60% or less. This one has really bad keyboard backlight variation where my other was almost perfect. At least I got the screen protector perfect on this one.

Battery life on my TP is average. It'll take me through the whole day with moderate usage. The thing with signal strength is bugging me though. I only get one bar at home, but whenever i receive or make a call it jumps up to 4-6 bars. I don't know exactly what's going on here, but perhaps signal strength is a tricky thing and it's not as it displays.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

Considering that I'm using the TP more and more like a laptop the battery life is acceptable although there's always room for improvement. Even a low voltage Thinkpad x61s ultralight laptop with extended six-cell battery only lasts 6-7 hours so the TP's battery life with all the functionalities it does is pretty impressive.

Any one know if GPS can be disabled and if it makes a difference on extending battery life?

Are you in an EVDO coverage area? If you are, the bars you see next to the EV icon at top represent the EVDO signal strength which is completely separate from the voice network signal. So as soon as you connect, the EV icon changes to 1X and the signal you see reflects the voice service signal strength.

I have noticed with my Pro, that even though the signal strength shows weaker than it did with my Mogul, I have far fewer dropped calls with the Pro. Big bonus there for me, though I still think I am gonna call Sprint about an Airrave soon.

As for more on the battery life, its terrible that I can't carry on a long voice call while plugged into the wall charger... I talked to my father for 2 hours this morning plugged into the wall, and the phone shut down on me mid conversation... So just having the CDMA radio going while in a call is enough to heat the phone off and trip the charging circuit. Going hogwild with data and killing the battery is one thing, but not being able to carry on a long call just blows my mind.
