Re: Heat Heat and more Heat

My Pro is right in front of me now. Tethered to my notebook. Not downloading, not running anything but ICS. It is currently not charging and NuePower is showing the temp at 47*C. I open the slider and use the vent of my truck to blow cold outside air on the device and boom - charging again. Now why on earth, ambient temps being average (70*F), does this thing stay so hot all the time?? Note the device is merely warm to the touch... yet the internals are cooking. I shouldnt need to actively cool my phone just to use it as it was intended...

Re: Heat Heat and more Heat

The phone wasn't intended for long term tethering, thats what a dedicated tethering device is for.

Well, while that may be partially true, both the 6700 and Mogul handled that task like a champ. There is no reason for a newer device to lose such simple functionality. Regardless, the data connection is connected but idling and it still wont charge without additional cooling.

And as far as 'tethering' goes, try telling the business clients leaving their phone docked via Activesync that its not designed for long term 'tethering'. Regardless of how you look at it, sync'ing is a form of tethering too and I am sure people will soon see that their device doesnt last through the day even while plugged in.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

my battery goes straight to 90% after taking it off the charger! this cant be right.... I've had it since Saturday and it seems to be getting worse....

here are my settings:

Push Mail for work
Gmail - 15 minute interval check
GPS Location On

My old Touch was amazing with these settings... but then again I had a 1500mAH battery.

My Mogul would over heat after an hour or so of tethering with active use. If your data is idle, I don't see why tethering would generate any extra heat... I have an open data connection almost 24/7 thats mostly idle with no ill consequences.

Syncing isn't anything close to tethering. Tethering requires use of the radio and such, syncing doens't cause overheating because it doesn't really do anything.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

Under Star -> Settings -> Phone -> Location

Disable it. (GPS for 911 will still turn on when placing an emergency call).

See if that makes a difference in battery life. You can always manually turn GPS back on when you need it, but seeing as how GPS is pretty useless now with the lag problem, might as well disable it.

Here's hoping thta solves the problem of the massive battery drain. That means it can be fixed with a firmware update.

Thanks to this thread for the suggestion:

Battery went from horrible to mogul

At first my Touch Pro wouldn't even make it through a full day and I'm talking about 5 minutes total calls. I noticed that everytime I checked in comm manager my phone's data connection was active.

Disabling weather auto update made my battery life as good as my mogul's was brand new. I can't complain.

If this has already been posted, please post a link so that it may help others instead of a worthless post just saying that this has already been discussed. Someone did that crap on my other post but couldn't recall a link.

Re: Touch Pro Battery life!!! Post your reviews!!

OK, I now think I know what the problem is. And it's all Sprint's fault.

I noticed that after a recent power blackout in my neighborhood last week, EVDO has been down. I think a local tower got knocked out or it's coincidence and Sprint took one down for whatever reason. The weird part is that I have an Airave, and it seems my Phone is struggling to try to get a far away EVDO signal. That's just a theory.

For a control test, I charged up my old Vogue 6900 Touch (not activated). And left it in standby idling. I periodically checked the battery whenever I checked my Touch Pro's battery.

Get this. They were losing power at nearly the same rate. Whatever happened has something to do with local cell phone reception. Either my Airave or the local towers.

I have been at home a lot this week, so I haven't had the chance to spend extended time away to see if my battery life would be better elsewhere.

But at least I know it's not specifically my Touch Pro that is defective. Well, in theory at least.
