I hope my hair-pulling experimentation helped some people (and thank you to whoever clicked "thanks"). I was really bothered that I gave away my $99 Mio c310x that ran TTS beautifully with iGO8 and yet my superphone with quadruple the RAM couldn't run it; so I spent hours trying to figure it out. Don't bother with going crazy in your sys.txt. I even halved the resolution (everything was blocky looking...like SNES running Mario Kart) and TTS still didn't work. Hell, I discovered it doesn't even matter if you use the low quality or high quality TTS files. My findings were the same with both.

By the way, not that I don't love the MortScript you guys wrote, but it's probably not necessary. Here's why. You can run CleanRAM (even just level 1) when you boot your phone, and TTS will work with iGO8 pretty much until you soft or hard reset your phone again. That's what's so strange. You can have 120MB free of RAM on your phone and TTS won't work. But if you run cleanRAM at 8am, and run iGO8 at 10pm when you are down to 65MB free...TTS works. Yeah it's a noodle scratcher alright; perhaps CleanRAM is killing a process that messes with TTS? I'm not sure. I'm just sure of one thing: to get TTS run cleanRAM once after every hard or soft reset and you're good to go.

Although I clicked Thanks, your method does not work for me . I still have to disable HTC sense to let TTS work. So I guess I am gonna stick to MortScript method. FYI, I am using latest MightyROM

The MortScript method is just as well (thanks for clicking Thanks by the way). The only downside is if you already have Igo8 open and minimized, to get back to it you have to let CleanRAM run every time rather than just clicking a shortcut to Igo8. However, luckily Igo8 is one of the few programs (at least with my plain Today screen) that has a "taskbar" icon. It puts a tiny little icon in the lower right hand corner and I use that to reopen Igo8. Your situation forces you to run CleanRAM even though you're just "maximizing" iGO8.

Just for the hell of it, consider doing what I do and see if you like it. In settings and Today, remove HTC Sense. I know people love the sleek look and such but I feel a plain old Today screen is so much nicer to use. It's just like a Windows desktop after you install a Today screen shortcut launcher. You can, without having to click anything or slide your finger or anything, have access to the date, time, weather, appointments, tasks, 6 e-mail accounts w/ number of unread messages, text messages, and shortcuts to like 10 programs/documents/communication managers/etc. all without ever even having to scroll the screen! I know it's not fancy looking but give it a try. Frees up an insane amount of RAM and is much simpler to access stuff. But believe me, it impresses no one. Here's a screen shot of mine:



The MortScript icon is iGO8. Speaking of which, is there any easy way to change mortscript's icons? I plan to put a few more on my desktop and I won't know which is which.

I've tried all the roms since this TTS deal. only mighty's gives me fits so I'm using Malatesa's 6.5.3. 6.5.3 is where it's at. Especially with the threaded email now.

Juicy's also has problems with TTS, but it will work right on bootup sometimes. So it really doesn't work. everybody elses works.

I got NavTeq 2009 Q2 and the speedcam from Dec 2009 working on my TP2.

Here are my steps:

1. Delete folder SAVE and clear out content on folder SPEEDCAM
2. Clear out content in 3 folders: Building, POI and MAP
3. Copy Q2 map into those 3 folders
4. Get iGo8 up and verify running
5. Exit and put the new text Speedcam text file in the folder

Looks like I will just go back to the stock rom since I want Igo8 to be fully working. I think if you run the stock rom, then run the cleanup cab and the tweaks cab and install SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 with a theme like HTC Pure the phone looks great visually, is very functional, and you don't need a custom rom.

Just to save you some time, I was using the custom 6.5 ROM and TTS does not work unless you run cleanRAM first (just like what I have figured out with a custom ROM). This confusion comes from the fact that yes, the stock 6.1 ROM did run TTS without the need to run cleanRAM, and the custom ROMs killed that. But as of right now no 6.5 ROM, whether custom or not, will run TTS without first running cleanRAM.

You are using 8.0; 99% of us are referring to the newer 8.3+. The maps aren't even really compatible with each other. Is there any reason you're on 8.0?
