Where is the auto-refresh setting? I'm looking in my Quick GPS tab and I don't have that option.

STEP BY STEP on how to get Text to Speech (TTS) working with iGO8 (cause I couldn't get it going either, and it seems it is because some downloads do not include TTS content). But be warned, like any GPS program, TTS is only kind of "meh".

This will give you four (4) TTS voices: UK - Kate, Simon US - Dave, Susan

1. Download the TTS files from HERE:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z9MTKOV1 (163 MB)

(note: this takes forever to upload. I will add a rapidshare link tomorrow if needbe)

When you unzip the file, you'll see an iGO8 folder. each file's location corresponds to where you should copy them onto your storage card. In other words, there are 4 files that go to root iGO8 directory, a new directory (iGO8/tts_loq) and a couple new voice files to put under iGO8/content/voice. I also attached the SYS.TXT from earlier in the thread, with the appropriate additions all added. Simply download and replace your SYS.TXT.

2. Follow this step ONLY if you wish to add the code manually rather than use the SYS.TXT included above.

2a. Add the following lines to [debug] section:

Code:
tts_min_ready_wav=1
tts_getaway_time=100
2b. And then add this section underneath [smartzoom] section:

Code:
[tts]
tts_buffer=131072
tts_logics=3
always_say_road_names=1
announce_street_name=1
announce_exit_directions=1
skip_exit_numbers=0
priority="HIGH"
Save and overwrite your old SYS.TXT file.

3. Turn on TTS voices. Go to Settings --> Regional --> Click on Voice Profile to select a new one --> Select a profile that has TTS in it.

SPECIAL BONUS: Latest US Speedcam file with ~ 4000 entries. Simply go to /iGO8/content/speedcam and add the text file. Then go to Settings --> Warnings --> Speed Camera Warning and check on the box for the warnings. Voila

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J9NVYZV4
http://rapidshare.com/files/288829352/speedcamNAall.txt
thanks.. trying now.. the walkthrough from the original post to add tts didn't work

Still not hearing TTS, and the sound icon on the left of the screen during routing, is showing the sound icon with a red slash in the middle, and I can't seem to enable it even though the sound settings are alll correct. Anyone have any ideas? The following is my sys.txt, Thanks

This might sound crazy but.... change from HTC Sense into Titanium you need a lot of extra ram to make it work. From the Titanium ment start IGO and it should work no problem, Only one issue is for some crazy reason NRGz ROMs do not alow TTS to work correctly. Odd but I have never been able to get
TTS to work while using them.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try the NRG titanium ver. and see if it works then.

Update: not working either :\ Tried MightyRom as well. Will keep foraging the net for more information..

Re: How to get iGo8 run on TP2 with TTS enable and 2009 NA Maps (step by step guide)

I am seriously going crazy/nuts here. I have been trying to find some answers to a couple questions I have and I am striking out everywhere I look, even the main product page!

1) Where in the h-e-double-hockey-sticks do you purchase this GPS software. Tons of information on the website, but absolutely no "Buy Here", or "click Here to purchase" links. I did find the iGO8 site, but it says nothing about the "new(?)" version.
iGO My Way: http://igomyway.com/windowsmobile/en/overview.html

2) Is iGO8 = iGO My Way 2009 for Windows Mobile???

I've tried the "unofficial" product and like it, minus the fact the "unofficial" version doesn't seem to work with Contact import. I want to purchase the full product to see if Contact support actually does or doesn't work.

Thanks for any help!

Re: How to get iGo8 run on TP2 with TTS enable and 2009 NA Maps (step by step guide)

Just poking my head in here to say, I know I contributed to the thread early on.. but I see all these emails and am glad I'm using Garmin Mobile XT these days LOL There is very very little to go wrong, and it is very reliable. If you can live without TTS for the street names (and really, is it a necessity?) you might be much happier just using that. Or even google maps or bing.. they are much better these days.

After almost a month of looking, I still haven't found the auto-refresh setting. The closest thing to that is the "Download automatically" setting.
