Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Got a follow up the other day from a high level Tech Support VP. VZW is currently testing the newest firmware update (which I hope will fix the problem). He believe's it will fix the issue. They worked with HTC on solving the problem from what I understand. Anyhow, that release is scheduled for January 15th. He said that he would try to get it to me sooner... so hopefully we will not have this stupid nagging issue anymore! Will update when I hear more!

VZW 6.5 ROM Update w/ New Radio Is out. If you don't want to reflash the entire phone you can do just the radio. Someone extracted the newer radio version here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=91940.

I installed the new radio and it seems to be working fine. Time will tell if the phone stays in 3G/EV data. Lately the 1X probably has been really bad. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I had the same problem crop up again in Alpharetta GA. However it didn't happen in Helen/cleveland areas. My home area code is 704(charlotte). I swear that has something to do with it, but I can't prove it.

I'm also in the Atlanta area (Woodstock) and have had the problem off and on since I got my phone in early November. I've even walked into the local Verizon store and looked at other phones, all showing 3G but mine showing 1X.

It almost seems to me that it's inversely related to the strength of the phone signal. When I'm in a very strong phone signal area, the data mode usually drops to 3G. Going to a weaker phone area (less than 4 bars), I get 3G, no problem. At my home, I'm only about 300 yards from a large cell tower -- but 1X data mode.

I hope it's true that a new update is coming January 15.

Well, Been using this new radio for 24 hours and not once have I gone to 1x. The 24 hours prior to that I had like 4 episodes of having to do the old soft reset, *228 voodoo...I'm thinking this new radio will do the trick!!!! Let's see..

Interestingly, users of the new Google Nexus (made by HTC) are complaining about the "stuck in 1X" problem. HTC needs to fix this common problem.

crsa: keep us posted on the new radio. I don't think 24 hours is enough to tell how it's going to work. I've gone as much as a week or more without the problem and then, wham, back again.

So far, I've gone 4-5 days with the new 2.23 radio and no problems. Normally I think I would have had to reset once or twice to get back to 3G. Everyone else having the same sucess?

This problem seems largely solved for me with the new 2.23 radio (also installed stock WM 6.5 ROM). I am occasionally in 1x when I turn the phone on, but it flips to EVDO in about 10 seconds. I haven't been stuck in 1x now going on 4 days. I feel like I'm finally getting all of the capabilities I should from this phone.

Sorry to drag this back up... Most of the time I get 3G but it seems like it constantly goes from full bars to 0-1 and back and forth. Every once in a while it goes to 1x but goes back to 3G. Is this normal? The Radio version I have says 1.88.07WV. Would it be beneficial to update this? Sorry if this seems to be a newby question, I am new to the whole smartphone world, and have been learning a lot on this site!
