Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Yeah, I'm in Atlanta and have the 1X problem -- sometimes going into 3G for as much as a week and then reverting back to 1X.

Just for fun, I visited by local Verizon store today and asked about the problem. Seems the girl behind the counter with a HTC Eris is having the problem and they acknowledged that other HTC owners were having the problem too. The TP2 on the floor had the problem.

After about 45 minutes with them checking for ROM updates and such, they admitted not having any answers and suggested that, hopefully, the first ROM updates from Verizon/HTC will solve it -- as I expected. I love my phone and am counting on the firmware updates to fix the problem.

I got my TP2 back in Sept. Have had the 1x issue the whole time, my wife got the same phone but never had the issue. I have placed a few calls to Verizon and HTC (HTC said they knew of the issue, but it was Verizon's fault, Verizon of course played dumb to the whole thing)
I was stuck in 1x from last Sunday morning until Monday afternoon even after soft resets. I finally got the 3G back.
A Christmas miracle has been performed!!! I have not seen 1x come back since!!! 2-4 bars of 3G at all times. I am in Atlanta, has anyone else noticed this happening to them? Did I jump the gun on my excitement?

My experience is a little different. I had only occasional periods of being in 1x for my first three weeks, then was stuck in 1x for a week (despite all kinds resets, etc). Finally, I manually did a send/receive to check my POP email account (while on the Manilla page for email -- not on the inbox page), and it kicked me into EV. Now I seem to flip in and out according to signal strength and whether or not I am actively using data. Must be a combination of local verizon network and some phones, as some TP2 owners report no problems, and owners of Imagio, Omnia, Droid, and even Blackberry report the problem sometimes also.

Anyone else with new info on this -- seems that some of us must be living with it.

I have my data get stuck in 1X randomly, seeminly soon after updating to the USCellular drivers, i never had my data drop randomly and get stuck when i was on the stock sprint rom. So this might not be just carrier related

I may be wrong, but I definitely think we should be asking the locations(not exact, but nearest large cities) where this is happening. Because this is not something I have had a problem with at all in my home(charlotte and winston areas) area, HOWEVER, I went to families house(atlanta) for the holidays and have been having problems the whole time down here with this. Well dang... I could have reverse tested this theory if I did'nt have to work. I live in ATL area and for the past 14 years went to Winston-Salem NC are for Thanksgiving. This is is the first I have not. Too bad. I would have either denied, or confirmed your theory and made it very interesting.

I'm curious to see if the people who are having this problem have a MOBILE number from ANOTHER area.... for Example. My Mobile Number is from FL from over 6 years ago. Then I moved to Atlanta and got the TP2 recently and have been having this problem. Maybe it's an account issue with VZW towers and the TP2. It seems when I leave the Atlanta area, the problem happens much less frequently than when I'm here.

Those of you who are having this problem, please let us know if your phone number is from your HOME area or a previous home area.

Can't be this easy, but I am still working on the 1x thing. Like most, I made many tweaks to improve battery life -- including taking my phone off roam -- I set it to Verizon only. I had to switch to roaming mode today when I was out of town. When I drove back, I have been on EVDO mode ever since. I have never been able to get EV at my house before (have only 1-2 bars of signal out of 7). But now I have EV at home.

Anyone else make this change?

It can't be this simple, but it seems to have done something. (BTW the setting is comm. manager>phone>CDMA settings>scroll down to roaming mode>set to automatic).

I live in Atlanta, but have a phone number from South Carolina. Have been experiencing the 1X issue for awhile now *sigh*

Well... I finally had enough and wrote a couple of VP's a Verizon on Saturday morning. Sunday around 11am I got a call from the Asst Director of Tech Support. He said he was able to reproduce the problem on his HTC device and had already contacted the engineering team at HTC and would get this resolve ASAP. Let see what happens.

Got a call just before Christmas from the same guy and was promised a software update fix at the end of Dec or first of January. Keep waiting and crossing my fingers!
