Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

I just discovered this issue tonight when I started to call verizon. I decided to seach and found the call this tech movement that sprang from this thread. Three soft resets brought me back to 3G. We see how long it lasts... But, I am sure I will have the same issues as you guys.

I'm guessing you already did this, but if not, please email or call Kevin at Verizon Wireless. His contact info is on post #1.

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Im not getting the 1x icon yet, but was wondering about my speed.

This is the best I've been able to get so far after testing in various places/times, usually it's been in the 400 range. Would this be considered acceptable? I thought maybe I could be having issues with 3g even tho my tp2 tells me I'm in 3g, maybe I'm not. TIA for any info you'd care to share.
Not trying to hijack the topic, just wondering about the possibility of an icon issue/esthetically speaking.

Maybe my 1x/3g icon's lying to me

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

I think you are probably 3G, the 1x speeds are around 120kpbs with EVDO around 500 to 2400 depending on the network...i typically get around 700 which is not stellar but not bad...I think while VZW may cover the most territory it is probably NOT the fastest...

FYI if I use the 100kb test I get about 519 kbps, but if I use 500 kb test, I get 947 kbps, 1mb i get 941 kbps
Check and see if using a larger file gets you a better speed...

Good luck.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile 6.0) Sprint T7380)

I ended up exchanging it for another one and now I am blazing at 1000 kbps, so it was a hardware defect. My old one was stuck at 100-150 kbps. I have Sprint.

Thanks for your comments. I did try larger file and it seemed the same. I did seem to find a sweet spot tho when i went for a coffee earlier and was able to blaze away at 1165 kbs. If I average it, not to bad then. I'd rather have great coverage than fastest 3g, if I had to choose. When my 3g icon goes away I'll start worrying.

I agree...i'm not sure I notice the difference between 900kbps and 1500 kbps...I still remember my old 14.4k modem....
plus, at least I don't drop calls....ever...

I also noticed a slight improvement, but of course I'm cautiously optimistic.

I received the phone from Fedex on launch Saturday and since then the longest I've gone is 6 days in 3G.

So I'll see if I can make it to next weekend...

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Hi all,
I was getting the 150k connection speeds until I changed "mode of operation" to "CDMA only" from "Global" in "Network Setting". Now I'm up to 500k when I do the DSLReports mobile speedtest 1MB test using Opera 9.7.
Maybe this would work for some of you that are having this problem.

Two additional questions though:
a. When people do the speedtests, do you test while tethered (my tethering speeds are much higher), or do you do the test right from the phone?
b. I'm getting 500k, but I've never seen anything higher when doing the test directly from the phone. I've done the test 10 times already during different times. Could it be the tower I'm close to, or does this signify a problem with the phone?
Thanks!

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

I test both straight from the phone and tethered. Tethered it was around 700kbps, from the phone it'll go 700-1500 kbps. On the phone I use http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1&more=1 and tethered I go to their main flash test.

My first tp2 was stuck around 150kbps, exchanged it yesterday and my second tp2 is fast.
