I'm back in the store and just ran a side by side speed test with the two phones to be sure. 172 kbps with the eris and 1490 kbps with the Moto droid. also the htc ozone is stuck in 1x.

yeah that was a typo, edited and fixed..
the new USC 2.05 worked fine, in fact is still loaded...the original post was corrupt but it was fixed ( I guess it pays to not be the first to try something!)
Unfortunately it did not fix the stuck in 1x problem which makes me wonder if it is the radio at all...
After the radio flash the phone soft reset like normal, started in EV and since then after two or three soft resets now its stuck in 1x and despite 2 or 3 more soft resets, no joy...still stuck in 1x...

Checked another HTC Eris and it was stuck in 1x too. 170 something kbps. The Imagio had that anti theft thing over the signal icon but a speed test confirmed it was getting 3G data.

This makes me wonder if it is an HTC problem...anyway to check what radio that HTC eris has? SHould be somewhere in settings, device info...
just curious...

BTW I e-mailed Kevin (from VZW, see post #1 for info) about the radio flashes and attempts...we'll see if he has any thoughts.

I didn't read the whole thread (too long) but I want to repeat that Sprint users are experiencing this issue too, though apparently not as bad. My phone does it maybe once a day but I can usually get it back into 3g by changing the network setting or soft-resetting, anything to get it to release its network registration and reregister.

I have seen 2 Ozone's (in stores), 2 Imagio's (in stores) and 3 Touch Pro 2's (that I owned) exhibit this problem. Verizon needs to get on HTC about the hardware they are using in these phones.

My TP2 on Sprint is getting speedtest results of ~150kbps, very disappointing. Sprint tech support said it was a hardware design issue.
