Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Happened again tonight. Had to reset the phone to try to get it to sync properly with Windows 7.

75 resets later and it's back in 3G.

I have to decide this week if I'm going to return it. I'm getting closer and closer to that.

My feeling is if their in-deed is an issue and its happening to more then one of us then they should honor a return no matter what. Im going to call them today to see whats-what on my service call because I'm coming close to the 30 day time period as well. I'll fight them if they do not honor a return, not that I want to return it. Who's to say a different new phone may have other issues.

Well I just got off the phone with Verizon and I have exchanged my phone for the Imagio.. We'll see what that brings.... Not sure it was a good move but what the heck...

Keep us posted on that. I'm very curious if the Imagio is any better in this regard, and how it is overall.

It turns out Sprint is still not an option. I ordered their TP1 and got it yesterday. Not only is it homely looking, but their text messaging is still just as whacked as ever.

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?

Im not having this exact issue, but when I first activated my phone it would not go to 3g, of course I didnt notice it for 3 or 4 days then until i got curious about it. Then i did another *228 opt1 update and have had 3g ever since.

No sprint or other carrier phone previously since this was a brand new line.

I started having this problem when I travelled to another state.

Did anyone try this:

It's supposed to let you manually switch between 1x and EV. Designed to save battery life.

Interesting. I'll download it and see if it can 'force' the phone back to 3G when it's stuck (though I don't think it will but worth a try).

Edit: Well this might help with troubleshooting but I don't think it would be a fix.

"Radio / 3G mode
By default when WMLongLife switches to 3G, it uses the 3G (auto) mode. This lets your radio decide whether to use 2G or 3G, based on signal. The other mode is 3G (only). This mode will force the radio to use only 3G, and you will have no signal if only 2G is available."

The way I see it is we would have to set 3G only mode to see if it would 'stick' but then it says you have no signal in a 2G area. Since voice/data calls use 1X on CDMA phones, it seems this be completely shut off if we get stuck in 1X. I dunno...

***Removing suggestion - since it screwed up my text messaging***

Damn

Are you going to keep it?

I'm really torn. I ordered the Imagio this morning & will try it out and see how I like it and/or if it has the same issue. If the Imagio doesn't work, I'm hoping that the TP2 will get an update to fix this problem. It happens infrequent enough, that it's more of an annoyance than anything else. I can't see using any other phones that Verizon has honestly.
