Re: TomTom is really slow!

Here's my take on the matter. I have 3 gps programs; tomtom 7.9, garmin 5.20 and Igo 8. I'm on verizon and I never had any issues locking onto satellites. In fact out of the box locks are very quick (10 to 30 seconds).

GPS lag (Difference in time when physically crossing an intersection to whats on the display.) This test was done after doing the no lag tweak found on this forum. I really did not see a difference.

Igo8 = 0.5 to 1 second delay
Garmin = 3 to 4 second delay
Tomtom = I stopped counting. Very unusable in 2d or 3d.

I'm no expert but maybe it's how tomtom uses the internal gps chip or it could be resolution issues and should be fixed via software. Igo 8 beats both with the amount of selectable features and text to speech engine but can be overwhelming for a newbie if you use the custom 480x800 skin. Garmin is newbie friendly but the navigation instruction is not to my taste. Tomtom is a mix between the 2. It's simple, the menus are well laid out, the navigation instruction makes sense but could benefit from tts.
I spent almost 2 hours making IGO 8 work just right and could be tweaked/changed even further. Garmin is fine if you want something more then google maps and if you can deal with the minor but usable lag. Tomtom needs some serious help on our phones.

Use TT7 with GSPgate. I am sure it will work.

Did you find specific settings for iGo that improve the lag and if so, would you mind sharing those? I have about 2 seconds lag with iGo on my Verizon TP2.

Re: TomTom is really slow!

Try it with GPSGate. Ask TT7 to get the GPS from there.

I have a feeling it will work.

I had this same problem when I had the Mogul.

Re: TomTom is really slow!

GPSGate is a software. My using it, you can use TT7 and any GPS software like Google all at the same time.

That is the same problem I had when I got the Mogul and the TT7 was slow.

I am getting my TP2 soon so until then, I just dont know. You give it a try.
