Smartgear works great on Touch Pro 2! NES! Genesis!

I am still a long way from being finished, but I figured it's time to let you guys start playing with what I've got. Here is a beta build (Requires WM5/6, sorry, PPC2003 no longer supported):

This is just the ARM EXE with no installer. It is labeled 2.0.1 BETA and will expire at the end of March. I'm confident I'll release a real build before then, but this is just to let you see the direction I'm going.

Here are the major changes:

1) The video configuration now is mostly automatic. I've written optimized routines for 75%, 100%, 150%, 200% and 300%. It will choose the best size for you so you don't have to configure each game. If you want to cover every pixel of the display, that option is available as a checkbox.

2) SmartGear now supports BGP100 and Zeemote controllers. The Zeemote currently only works on devices with the Microsoft bluetooth stack. I can't make any promises, but I'll try to add support for Widcomm. Select how you want the devices to be arranged by selecting Options->Devices->Configure. Once things are set the way you want, connect to the device(s) by selecting Options->Devices->Connect. Make sure your devices are on and ready. Widcomm devices will use the BT Serial port and pop up an annoying window; Microsoft BT devices will do it all silently with sockets. Pair with your devices before you run SmartGear so that they're in the BT devices list. This soon won't be needed on Microsoft BT devices. The "driver mode" is currently not implemented, but I'll have it running soon.

3) 2-player mode is now supported with the use of the keyboard or bluetooth devices. You can arrange things any way you want, but the most "comfortable" way to play has been to use 2 Zeemotes on the phone and have it connected to a TV. I've tested this with NES, SMS and TG16 games. I'll be working on Genesis soon, but I haven't tested it.

4) The GUI has changed to show you your controller input while sitting idle. Green indicates P1 and Red indicates P2. This is useful when using wireless controllers to confirm that they're connected.


5) Head-to-head play is in the works for GameGear/GameBoy and the 2-player systems. This is currently partially implemented.

Things are not fully implemented, so please don't send bug reports. I would be happy to receive suggestions about how to make the GUI friendlier and reasonable feature requests.

ok... ive got version 1.1.6 and it doesnt show up properly on landscape... portrait mode is fine, but then i cant press any buttons... what do i need to do?

This works great for the NES games I've tried. Very smooth, with very few audio anomalies.

The genesis games don't work very well for me, though. Fpr example, 'Sonic I' has choppy gameplay and many audio anomalies to the point that it's not enjoyable to play.

I'm running stock sprint rom, with the "GoodThings2Life" performance tweak package.

Also, I've tried the Beta Release, and it doesn't work well at all on my phone. I know that LB said not to post bugs, I won't go into detail unless he seems interested. It basicaly comes down to freezing the phone, lagging when trying to close the program, high memory usage, etc....

It will probably be another week before I can clean up the beta a bit further. "Real work" is getting in the way. I actually cleaned up the NES sound a little and will be going over all of the emulators (including Genesis) and making them work as best as possible. Sorry for the delay, but stay tuned...

I cant seem to get any games other than NES games to work on my Sprint Touch Pro2 Stock Rom... Anyone know a way around this?? I can get NES Roms working well. SMS, Genesis games, nothing... Im dying to play Virtua Racing again!! Same thing on my PC... It just wont work... I wont say where I got the roms, but the site sure is dope ( wink wink nudge nudge ) lol... seriously though any help would be appreciated....

Finally some great news for SmartGear fans! I worked exclusively on sound issues this weekend and fixed many things. We finally have decent GENESIS playback with full audio!!! I also cleaned up the NES and TG16 sound and seem to have solved that ever present clicked on different handsets. I was playing lots of Genesis games on my TP2 this weekend and they worked extremely well. Here's a rundown of what's changed:

1) Genesis sound fix!!!
2) NES sound fix
3) GameBoy system fixes (more games run now - e.g. Boarder Patrol).
4) Turbogfx-16 sound fixes
5) Sound timing fix - games should play on all handsets without any "clicking" sounds
6) Better battery life - re-enabled sleep for the extra time each frame.
7) Added Graphics and network benchmark tests.
Fixed GUI to set game settings to currently displayed "previously played game".
9) Added "head2head" play for GBC + GG. Now 2 players can play linked games on a single device.
10) Changed video settings to 3 choices: Best Performance, Fit-2-window, and fullscreen. Let me know if that doesn't cover all.

IMPORTANT: SAVE STATES WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY IN GG/SMS and GBC. I will fix this on the next round.

Many things are still incomplete, but it's come a long way. Please send all feedback including GBC game compatibility issues.
