Re: Touch Pro 2 FM Radio Questions/Answers

WOW, so, I spend a little time looking to somethig, just to see there was anything really new about this subject and look into myself to check it out to make sure every thing is on. Really people...Do you have to be jerks about it ?

This only came up again because somone on XDA had an idea to look at it again, to take a 2nd view at it....

Hmmm....Android...gives me an idea..

Android on the TP2....on the GSM version of it, has anyone attempted to get the radio working on Android ? If so, has anyone attempted to run the software for the radio on the CDMA version ?

This would clear it up, once and for all....

You obviously don't understand software licensing. M$ does NOT create or release ROMs for WinMo phones. They are developed by the phone manufacturers who simply pay M$ a licensing fee for using WinMo on their phones. Any development of the phone is done using the M$ SDK, but that's about the extent of M$'s involvement. As for any ancillary apps included by the manufacturer, they are developed in-house. For instance, HTC developed TF3D and Sense, not M$. If there is a software implementation of hardwar, like the FM radio, it is done by the phone manufacturer. It is their responsibility for that app and trying to get M$ to give you tech support for something outside the OS would be a waste of time. The M$ SDK may make it possible to implement something like an FM radio, but it is the device manufacturer that is responsible for the hardware and software to actually make it work.

I think he's trying to say that HTC is making it sound like it IS in the OS.

Re: Touch Pro 2 FM Radio Questions/Answers

no one "deserves" to get flamed, people are constantly bringing up old topics over and over. All the guy is trying to do is help. You may believe its a lost cause but if he wants to research it further then so be it why does what he does bother you so much? Is it really that intrusive in your life that you have to constantly insult him? Come on dude, no need for name calling we arent in elementary school anymore.

That would be putting too much stock in what someone had to say. How many times have you spoken to a customer service rep for some company and been told one thing only to be told something else by a different rep? I wouldn't accept on face value anything from HTC on this. The people responsible for the decision to neuter the FM radio are way higher up than customer service reps and I seriously doubt they shared their motivations with them. Anything a rep has to say on this is pure conjecture.

First of all boredandtattooed you WILL NOT be flaming on this site and if you do you wont be apart of this community anymore. It's not something we condone nor will we allow it. You have been here long enough to know better and we expect more out of you than the way you are acting.
On another note.
This needs to stay on topic "
Touch Pro 2 FM Radio Questions/Answers" Any other discussions belong in a PM.

An antenna is a piece of metal. All antennas look alike to software, even if some actually work and some don't.

If the hardware were actually identical apart from the antenna, the software would have no way of knowing whether it was being asked to run a GSM device or a CDMA one and would not brick either.

It not being able to take a GSM ROM tells me there is something hardware related that is in the way.
Install a battery driver made for a different device. It's only there to help with power management and tell the phone how much battery is remaining, so it's not that critical of a driver really, at least as far as OS function goes. It will do the same thing. VZW's latest MR2 update for the TP2 had a bad file in it that kept the device from booting if you had an unlocked phone. The file didn't have any function at all, but it still kept the phone from booting up if it was unlocked.

These devices aren't like a normal computer, they don't have a library of generic drivers to fall back on, and they don't have a bunch of debugging stuff built in to the underlying OS. Space is limited, so if something doesn't come back right, it just stops and doesn't skip over it or anything, it just stops where it is, maybe restarts and tries again, but it's still fairly limited on what it will do.

Nearly all of the hardware is identical to the TP1 outside of the screen, try flashing a TP1 ROM to a TP2 device and it will get the same result as flashing a GSM TP2 ROM to a CDMA TP2 device.
