ESRP = Equipment Service and Repair Program (http://www.nextel.com/assets/pdfs/en...-2024_ESRP.pdf)

Now the question:
The phone is already warranty covered for 1 year against manufacturing and malfunction defects. An additional warranty of 1 year is covered by the credit card used for purchase. So the phone is effectively covered for 2 years. In this case, why not just get the ERP for 3$ rather than full TEP for 7$?

The only benefits I see of ESRP are:
1. Immediate repair without having to mail it to HTC or arrange for a temp phone.
2. Enables eligibility for coverage after 2 years if you continue (Which again can be purchased from credit card)

Does anybody see any other reasons to purchase ESRP?

***EDIT: Went to Sprint store to clarify. All I mentioned above is correct. You just need the ERP to sleep peacefully. The benefits of ESRP over warranty are also just the ones I mentioned above. Its a personal decision of whether it is worth 36$/year (If you remove ESRP, ERP alone is 4$).

thanks!

Your information is right, but I would suggest the following points as to my view on the situation in general.

1) Isn't same day/next resolution on defects/failures worth $36 a year to anyone? I don't know anyone who would rather ship their unit off to a non-local manufacturer for a savings of 36 dollars a year. If $36 dollars a year is making/breaking your finances, you need to re-examine other expenditures in your monthly budget.

2) ESRP is an lifetime warranty with a 1 day turn around time, generally speaking, that you can ALWAYS count on. Isn't that worth $36 dollars a year to you?

3) Lets say, for the sake of discussion, you buy a new device(TP1) which seems great but turns out to have some seriously flawed design(keypad failures) that doesn't show up for 6-months to a year. If Sprint ever makes a judgment call on NOT replacing your unit with the same unit and offers you an upgrade instead (ex. getting a TP2 to replace a TP1), isn't that worth $36 dollars a year to you? Hell, I haven't PURCHASED a phone on my personal line since I bought my 6800 Mogul and yet that line also has a TP2 on it. I'm not saying this is always the case, I'm just offering a different point of view on what COULD happen.

4) OPINION ALERT - Would you rather run down the street or across town and have a finite resolution OR make a phone call to a giant corporation who might put you on hold for 10 minutes after you navigate their retarded automated menu, that it seems like some 12 year old kid designed, only to let you speak to someone that reads off a script because its their job. When you do get to speak with someone, you might understand them and they will probably infuriate you by asking you to repeatedly remove the replace your battery to see if the problem is then fixed. I mean......If there are ants in my house I COULD just sit around and kill every single ant I see, but I'd much rather just put down some bug repellent/spray, grab a coke, and then go about my business.

- Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for chipping in this thread.

Agree with Pts 1, 2 & 3. Pt. 4 is moot. My last experience with HTC was pretty smooth. Nothing I could complain about.

But after all this deliberation, I do realize that it is worth it.

Re: Sprint Total Equipment Protection (TEP) = ERP + ESRP

For an extra $3 bucks per month, you get a lifetime warranty on your phone plus replacement for lost/stolen/liquid/physical damage with a deductible.

I don't mind paying an extra $3 dollars to avoid having to deal with a warranty repair from a manufacturer or a warranty claim with a credit card company.

Call me lazy if you want

Another important note to remember, Asurion does not cover customer abuse so be careful with your phones!!

tep through sprint who uses asurion does cover customer abuse! if i get mad at my phone...throw it, stomp on it and give it a swirly, as long as i pay my deductable and send them the one i trashed they cover it with tep. however...i could just tell them i lost it and keep it as a momento of our love/hate relationship.

Re: Sprint Total Equipment Protection (TEP) = ERP + ESRP

You never know what can go wrong with smartphones. I've had to replace at least half a dozen smart phones in the many years since I've started using them. I've always had TEP and it's equivalents on Sprint and Verizon. With a smartphone I think it's absolutely worth it as I can just walk into a store and have them either fix or repair my phone on the spot.

Re: Sprint Total Equipment Protection (TEP) = ERP + ESRP

Question. I have ESRP and my phone has been dropped several times. It still works fine but it has cosmetic damage. The screen doesnt have any cracks but its chiped several places and the stylus slot doesnt hold the stylus anymore due to the constant falls. With ESRP will they replace my phone for free or do i have to pay due to the physical damage? What is my best way to go about getting a replacement?

I don't see the point in paying $7/mo when you can pay $4/mo for ERP. In both insurance premiums you have to pay a $100 deductible for liquid/physical & lost/stolen

They tend to overlook cosmetic damage. As long as it didnt contribute to the claim(broken screen, splits on phone case), they will mostl likely take care of it. Ofcourse, these claims can be a YMMV. Just be sure you get someone that isnt anal
