Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
I used to change phones once a year, than every 6-9 months, now today I get the nexus and I'm down to a 3 month upgrade cycle. Things are changing fast because there is an all out war happening with Apple, Google, Palm, and soon Microsoft when they get their act right. 2011 will be even worse.

Agreed on getting last of the Mohicans. Regardless, love the device.
Agreed the new phones coming out will be much better. Agreed that trying to keep up with the phones will get you broke. If you have the money to afford it, please share. Agreed the rate of technological development, phones especially now, is rapidly increasing. However...Fran Drescher..? I just can't agree there. |

Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
This might sound crazy but, my TouchPro2 is enough to clown on 3 of my coworkers who have Iphones, and one of them has the 3GS! They just don't know jack $hit about phones. Every time I find something new to do to my TP2, I throw it in their face. Yup, I'm they guy they love to hate because they can't beat me. They have even asked me if I can jailbreak their phone for them, I just laugh in their face! If its anything, you should be glad that windows mobile have helped us learn to make the most out of the platform that we are given.

I've had 2 smart phones, q9c and tp2. and in 1-2 years when i'm done with this one, i'm sure i'll get the greatest phone avail through sprint, but not before then, just because there is a new one out there. get away from the keyboard once in awhile guys... |

Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
I have owned quite a few WM devices. All have had their own issues, but I am sure that no one in the WM community will deny that the Touch Pro was probably one of the worst devices to ever hit the market. To date I consider it to be HTC's darkest hour. I think that they should have just given everyone who bought a TP1 the TP2 for free, but I digress, The TP2 is truly a great device. Besides the Bluetooth issues I have had no issues with the phone. Thanks to Mighty for his fantastic rom, the Bluetooth issues have been fixed and the phone runs like a champ right now. As with all technology, as soon as you buy a product, it’s out of date. As previously said in this post, you will go broke trying to stay up to date with all the "latest and greatest" tech gizmos out there. I realize that the TP2 is not too far ahead of the TP1 but the fact that it works, probably better than any WM device i have ever owned is good enough for me. Personally i will wait until 4g comes out and hopefully sprint will release a smartphone with Direct connect on it. Until then I am happy with what I have.

you bet your sweet ass there is an all out war. but the devices can only go so far, equipment eligibility and everything relies on the carrier more than the manufacturers |

Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
Buying tech items is always like hitting a moving target. There will always be something bigger and better on the horizon. The balance you much achieve is having the latest technology, but understanding that the latest won't last very long. It's true HTC could have introduced better/next generation hardware on the TP2 platform. They likely could have extended the functional life of the device if the did so. The fact is the TP2 was basically IMO a make up device. It was created to address the deficiencies in the TP1 giving the same hardware platform and it did a respectable job at that goal.
I was one of the ones who paid full price for the phone - upgrade fees, and I can honestly say I am as happy with my phone now as the day I got it. I also understand that there are some new very nice phones about to hit the market this year. Smart phones in general have gone through an evolution within the past 12 months and their capabilities continue to grow at an almost exponential rate. With all that being said, I think I can be happy with my device for another year or so and get the next device out there that satisfies my love with technology and allows me to keep my beloved legacy SERO plan.

Re: So why do I feel like I bought the last of the Mohicans
I'm not even gonna read all the comments, but I just gotta throw this in after reading the first few... basically, the Touch Pro 2 is the James T. Kirk of Windows Mobile phones. It's freaking awesome any way you look at it, but it's still the last awesome of a dying generation that is going to be moved into the next generation of Windows Mobile... err, Windows Phone.
Now don't get me wrong, Picard is still my favorite captain, but Kirk just kicks butt and takes names and he's always getting what he wants. There's nothing wrong with Kirk at all, and just look at Generations... Kirk and Picard together kick butt and take names, and Kirk dies a hero. By contrast, don't doubt your decision to get the Touch Pro 2. It's a great device, so set a course for awesomeness and enjoy some away missions. Second star to the right and straight on til morning!
