pretty sure htc markets the phones and its up to the individual carriers to promote or even bid a contract with a specific htc device. Its not necessarily htc that lies at fault, but in this case an individual carrier (T MO, ATT, SPRINT, VZW)

one huge reason winmo is carried further overseas is simple - bigger market for winmo devices. Even though android is carrying lots of steam, winmo is still the preferred business phone...

So then you're saying there are more business customers using smartphones in Europe or Asia than in the USA? I don't think I can agree with that. I just think HTC is an Asian company that takes care of the people close to home first.

Someday some American company will start making smartphones and Americans will get them first. See Apple for an example of this. You could also mention Google here. And probably someday, Microsoft will make their own phone too.

Yes there is a higher market for business customers overseas as well as a better GSM area than America. HTC is a business, and for most asian customers, the phones (unlocked and not on contract) are out of a lot of people's leagues. Europe and Asia are markets that do sell htc, and sell loyally to HTC and its marketed heavily here. HTC does sell a lot overseas. Shoot if I was a phone company, I'd go to Europe and Asia first as well, its just business not some take care of momma country first

Well, to put it bluntly- you're crazy. Please show me how you came to the conclusion that there are more business customers in Asia (or even Europe) than in North America (and specifically, the USA). You're talking about the world's only super power here...

By the way, Apple had no trouble selling their smartphones to the USA first.

Europe may have better GSM coverage than the USA, but what does that have to do with anything? Apple had no problem selling iPhones even though they released it in the USA first (and it was GSM too, I might add). And HTC makes CDMA phones too- they just don't do it until after they have already made GSM versions.

Look at it like this- people were buying the Australian version of the HD2 because it works on AT&T's 3G. Yet HTC has not made any effort whatsoever to advertise it or sell it in the USA. And the same goes for the Touch Pro 2- the Australian version worked on AT&T's 3G long before AT&T had even announced they would carry it. And yet HTC made no effort whatsoever to sell it to Americans.

You could make a case that the carriers are threatening HTC to ignore Americans like that, but it is still HTC caving and actually ignoring the Americans.
I should also add that Blackberry devices usually release to Americans first, and they have no trouble selling either (primarily to business customers).

I'm not saying HTC should ignore the rest of the world and cater to Americans or anything like that. But at the same time, I am pretty sick of them flat out ignoring us. It's like HTC refuses to do any kind of busness whatsoever with the American public. The only way they will sell anything at all to us is through a carrier. And the carrirs here are always the last ones to get HTC devices.

Usually, by the time we get an HTC device here, its lifecycle is at least half over. It looks like HTC actually upgraded the specs (for once) on the device that was already halfway through its life cycle. And the Europeans are flipping out about it. And yet us Americans have been taking the shaft from HTC on every single device they have ever released. We're accustomed to just be happy when we get a device at all. No matter that it is already about to be replaced by a newer and better device- just be happy we got it at all as the last 3 devices didn't even make it over here...

Saltydawg i'm going to have to disagree with you. I'm not going to give any reasons because i don't know, but to be honest winmo has a waaay bigger spectrum in the uk. To be honest if it wasn't for the uk, winmo would be completely dead. thats why all the winmo phones go over seas first, not just htc. sony who is another big winmo manufactuer with their x series haven't even made a phone for the US yet in terms of winmo. No US manufactuer has made winmo phones because winmo is dead in the US, i'm sorry but its the truth. this is why we get whats left over. In the uk they have boatloads of winmo phones to choose from, if they manufactured those phones for the US those companies would only start loosing $, because they wouldn't sell enough handsets.

Of course the UK sells more Windows Mobile phones that the USA. Why? Because companies (HTC) actually try to sell them there. Like I said- people here are actually importing the Australian version of the HD2 because it works on AT&T's 3G. Yet I have not seen one single commercial for it, and HTC's website doesn't even mention anything about it working here.

There is no marketing whatsoever here for Windows Mobile, and no attempt to sell any.

By the way- you're wrong about Sony. They actually made Xperia's specifically for the USA and you can buy them right on the company website. They put an "a" in the model number (X1a, X2a) that means it is for America. See here:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...7&N=4294953717

Now they don't advertise them at all, but at least they sell them. HTC on the other hand, doesn't even pretend to care about the American public. They sell to carriers, and that is it. If the carrier doesn't pick it up we're just out of sight, out of mind.

they don't sell more because htc tries to sell more, they sell more because the people want it more. if the people wanted those phones in the US then they would create them. marketing only goes so far, google is able to market android because they will sell enough units to make the money back, if they market those phones in the us trust me, they will only be throwing $ away. sony is the perfect example. you said its for the us, but sony sold the majority of its handsets overseas, and continues to sell them overseas. in the us, apple and android run this market, with or without advertising.
