And yes, this thread was about the ban, and I was merely presenting alternatives to obtaining a "banned" phone. Also, for the post above, XDA Flame is available and is not a "mini laptop", nor is the upcoming Imate 7150. I will grant that the Advantage/Athena is more like a laptop or UMPC. My main point is that, while the 6800 is an improvement over the 6700, there are far more functional phones out there IF you're willing to purchase outside the US and move to a GSM carrier. I did a comparison on PDADB.net, pitting the 6800 against some other phones that are eithe currently available or will be this month or next. All of those phones CRUSH the 6800 in terms of features: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomp...d3=721&id4=771 |

![]() Alright, we'll factor out the Imate. Anyway, the M700 and Kaiser both have GPS. PPC-6700 doesn't. Kaiser has secondary camera for teleconferencing. PPC-6800 doesn't. Kaiser's main camera is 2.8 MP while PPC-6800 is 1.9 MP. PPC-6800 has 256 MB ROM which is superior to M700, but only has 64 MB RAM. Kaiser has 128 MB RAM. In reality, the M700 seems to be somewhat comparable device to the 6800, I'll grant you that. I do know that the one I had for a short time was very buggy with the OEM WM6 upgrade. Of course, our 6700s where buggy, too. That's why everybody is cooking ROMs for them! It seems to me that the HTC Kaiser, based on the facts, is a superior phone and does indeed CRUSH the 6800. I don't want to start a flame war here, but I was a happy 6700 owner (thanks to Colonel) but was let down by Sprint and their lackluster support. Then came the delays to the 6800, and I decided to do some research. What I learned was, there were equivilant and superior devices already available, but the tradeoff is switching to GSM For me, it came down to a decision: Stick with Sprint and wait for the compromise-laden 6800, or switch carriers and get a phone with all the features I really wanted. For me, it's about the device, so I chose the latter. You may choose differently, and that's cool. It's what makes the world go around! But please don't tell me that the 6800 is the end-all, be-all, because it's not. For the record, my short term solution was to pick up and HTC Trinity. I'm looking forward to comparing notes with many of you soon-to-be 6800 owners. Now there's a good comparison! |

Glossman, I'd never argue with you that the Kiaser has better specs than the Titan. Crushing in my mind is a bit overkill though. Since the Kiaser isn't even in the market yet, and we still aren't sure when we will see it, and I've been using my Titan for a couple of months now, I think gives it a bit more value. It comes down to more RAM and GPS. Good specs but not crushing.
After using the Titan for a couple of months I can honestly say it stands up on its own merits pretty well. Dave |

I have to agree with Paragon. What you mention is different features but certainly not in the crush category.
I don't see anywhere that Paragon said the 6800 was the end all be all though. Just a difference of opinion. ![]()

![]() And just so we're clear, I do appreciate the lively debate. It was acutally a debate I first had with myself when I made the decision to jump the Sprint ship after the 6800 delay was announced. I think much of this debate comes down to what each of is looking for in a PDA Phone. When the 6800 was announced, I was really excited, even though it seemed to be an incremental upgrade over the 6700. Once Sprint announced the delay and it was supposedly October, I began to investigate other alternatives. And that's when I realized there was a whole world that I didn't even know about. After my initial research, I made a list of priorities for features in the next phone: 1. Quad Band 2. WM6 3. VGA Screen 4. On-Board GPS 5. 802.11g WiFi 6. QWERTY Of course, this feature set is available in one phone right now (HTC Advantage) and that's just way too big. The HTC Universal also fits most of the criteria, but it lacks the GSM 850 band that is now prevalent in the US. More phones are on the way that will offer all of these features, but availability will be tough and the phones pricey, at least at first. Needing a phone quickly (the 6700 died) and not wanting to take a Treo as an exchange from Sprint, I signed up with Cingular and bought an M700 for the short term. It met all of the above qualifications except VGA. Turned out to be a nice phone to look at, but it had all kinds of software bugs, and it was not 3G-enabled, so data was at dialup ![]() Anyway, the next feature I need to have is a VGA screen. I've seen one first hand on a Universal, and there's just no comparison. I just don't understand why we don't get on devices here! I'll say one thing, the moment a US CDMA provider offers a VGA phone with a slider, I'll be first in line to make the jump. Sorry to ramble on, but I wanted to share with you my reasoning for my original statements. I look forward to more debate! ![]() |
