I guess it comes down to semantics. "Crush" versus "better". I can live with that!

And just so we're clear, I do appreciate the lively debate. It was acutally a debate I first had with myself when I made the decision to jump the Sprint ship after the 6800 delay was announced.

I think much of this debate comes down to what each of is looking for in a PDA Phone. When the 6800 was announced, I was really excited, even though it seemed to be an incremental upgrade over the 6700. Once Sprint announced the delay and it was supposedly October, I began to investigate other alternatives. And that's when I realized there was a whole world that I didn't even know about. After my initial research, I made a list of priorities for features in the next phone:

1. Quad Band
2. WM6
3. VGA Screen
4. On-Board GPS
5. 802.11g WiFi
6. QWERTY

Of course, this feature set is available in one phone right now (HTC Advantage) and that's just way too big. The HTC Universal also fits most of the criteria, but it lacks the GSM 850 band that is now prevalent in the US. More phones are on the way that will offer all of these features, but availability will be tough and the phones pricey, at least at first.

Needing a phone quickly (the 6700 died) and not wanting to take a Treo as an exchange from Sprint, I signed up with Cingular and bought an M700 for the short term. It met all of the above qualifications except VGA. Turned out to be a nice phone to look at, but it had all kinds of software bugs, and it was not 3G-enabled, so data was at dialup speeds. I then had to re-prioritize, at least for the short-term, and that's how I wound up with the Trinity: I gave up the keyboard and did without VGA. In return, I got a fairly clean WM6 installation from XDA-Developers, as well as 802.11g and 3G broadband. Ahh, the trade-offs!

Anyway, the next feature I need to have is a VGA screen. I've seen one first hand on a Universal, and there's just no comparison. I just don't understand why we don't get on devices here! I'll say one thing, the moment a US CDMA provider offers a VGA phone with a slider, I'll be first in line to make the jump.

Sorry to ramble on, but I wanted to share with you my reasoning for my original statements.

I look forward to more debate!
Im happy for you man, No doubt. But ill tell you what i told eveyone else. Have fun Dishing out 400 500 dollars when your phone breaks. Yes having somewhat more advanced phone is nice, but having a phone that isnt so far behind with insurance makes me feel all tingly inside knowing that no matter what i do, Im covers. That and the Net is the only reason why i will never go to gsm. You go to any site and you will hear the sprint is top dog for the net.

You make some valid points. In fact, of 3 providers I've used (Verizon, Sprint, and now Cingular), Verizon had by far the best network for me. Sprint was a distant 2nd.

As for the insurance, it didn't do me much good when my 6700 died, and all they wanted to give me was a Treo. I do agree about the peace of mind, though. When I was with Verizon, I went through three XV6600s under insurance. I guess now, I'm at the mercy of lady luck and HTC's warranty!

good grief. I come to this thread hoping to read about Qualcomm ban or the Mogul banned and instead I read quoted text upon quoted text about 6800 vs GSM vapor options? Please, move these replies to some other thread about options other than the 6800 or 6800 vs Imate thread, or what have you. but I came to read about any news about the ban. If I wanted to read about 6800 vs. options, I wouldn't come to the "Mogul Banned?" thread. I was trying to be polite before. Have this lively debate elsewhere, Thanks

heres some more news on this issue which i think works in our favor:

Quote:
t seems the feds agree with us that a broad, sweeping ban on little morsels of 3G goodness is just flat-out uncool. The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has turned the proverbial hourglass upside down, giving the US International Trade Commission two weeks to justify its partial halt on the import of devices equipped with 3G chipsets manufactured by Qualcomm. The spat originates over a Broadcom claim that Qualcomm's silicon infringes on its patents, and the court system is interested in hearing why the USITC thinks the ban should remain in place while Qualcomm appeals. Intellectual property issues aside, the ITC's cold-turkey ban stands to have a significant impact on carriers, handset manufacturers, and customers (that's us, by the way) as the selection suddenly dries up -- so at the very least, we're hoping everyone affected has a little more time to get their ducks in a row while the patent suit navigates the legal system (please?).

this is just speculation and guesswork (until the 19th I suppose when phones do or don't show up) but with rumors and reports rampant the phone is delayed again - whether by "direct" or "indirect" sale, anybody hear anything wayside that its due to the ban?

*edited because last question could lead to off topic answers

I think we need to start a new thread to continue this debate, as we have clearly worn out our welcome here. I'll send you the link when I do that.
