This is exactly what he needs to do, but he may not know what the address is or the domain...

I did the above, did not go through my IT dept. Ask those treo guys to show you their settings, you may find the mail address and/or the domain.

my mail address is mail.(company acronym).edu (we are a research and educational hospital system related to a major university, so we are .edu- you will probably be .com)

and the domain is 1-(company acronym)acct

So maybe these items will help you recognize the reqired settings.

I can get it to work by syncing through USB at work or over works WiFi. If I reset, lose data, or switch to WiFi outside of work, it quits working. I have had no luck with finding a difference before a reset, then again I highly doubt I have looked in the right location.

Easiest way for me to get access to my work mail (my work uses Exchange 2007 and Pocket IE doesn't work with it). Download the Opera 9.5 beta, I can access my OWA with that no problem.

this is by far the simplest way to do it. Just follow the easy instructions. All you need is your email from work and it will detect all your setting and walk you through it. I love this program and the second they send you an email you will get it on your phone.

If your company is not using a root cert it will not work for push. Only network connected sync.

That is exactly what he needs to try first, it doesn't mean that it will work, or that it hasn't been disabled by his IT department. This worked for me for a month or so, then the IT department realized the default was set to on, and disabled it.

Next is to install the certificate used for the OWA server, follow the instructions given earlier in this thread. Then retry the Active Sync approach.

If that doesn't work, or you get a message indicating that your account is not enabled for OMA... the built in Active Sync will not work.

Assuming that it doesn't work, it is also doubtful that you will be able to use IMAP outside of your work network. So you are very limited in what you can do.

You can use OWA in a browser (IE, or Opera).
You can use some service that runs on a machine at your work site, and sends the information to their external server, and connect to their external server.
You can use a service that connects to OWA and caches the data on their external server, and use thier external server on your device.

This is what led me to develop my program. I started with syncing the calendar, so that's all it does right now.

You may also want to find out who issued your certificate. Our company bought some certs that were incompatible with Windows Mobile.
