IT guy at work is incompetent; can I get exchange to work by myself?

The IT guy at work says that they have not gotten the "certificate" for the mogul so he cannot get it to work yet. I know we have exchange 2003, and I know of some people at work who got exchange through their treo to work through him. Is there any way I can get this to work by myself, or is his "expertise" necessary?? Thanks...

they do need to enable your account in Exchange so that it allows you access to 'mobile.yourcompany.com' through your phone. then exchange has to write a certificate to your mogul so it becomes a recognized device.
sorry to say, you do need to go through them....... maybe try a diff person in the department ?

do a search on your company server for *.cer

That is how i found mine and uploaded to my ppc. I never heard of having to have a certain cert for each phone type. If it works for treo windows I would think it would work for mogul.. but I'm no IT

If it is Windows SBS Server then look in the \\sbs-server-name\ClientApps folder and there should be a folder inside with the certificate. Copy it to you phone and open it using the File Explorer. It will give you the option to import it and that should be it.

If your company has not disabled Outlook Mobile Access, all you need to do is grab the certificate using a web browser from your Outlook Web Access site. Then install this certificate on your Mogul. You only have to do this if the certificate is not signed by a root certificate authority.

The other thing is that your account must be enabled for OMA. Otherwise it will not work.

If you aren't able to get this to work, you can give my program a try. My company refused to enable Outlook Mobile Access, so I wrote a program to sync my calendar using OWA. The link is my signature.

Good luck.

You could probably try, but there are probably too many variables. Depends if user accounts have mobile access allowed (exchange defaults to yes), if forms based SSL logins for OWA are required (if so, then are usually some extra steps involved to make OTA work, like creating a new app folder in IIS), if the security cert is available, or at least the toplevel cert etc..

there is nothing specific to the mogul to make this work/not work, so I'd agree your IT guy doesn't really know what he is doing...

Not to thread jack, but I have the same problem. I even got the cert through web access and put it on my mogul and had no luck.

Easyst way to do it.

just go to the Mail.yourcompany.com or companys exchange mail site and left Click the little lock, at the top right of the screen IE 7.0 or bottom right in IE 6.0

click - view certificates
click - details tab
click - copy to file
click - next
click - DER encoded radio button
click - Browse

save it to a location on your computer like desktop
then Transfer .CER file to phone

(on mogul)
Use file explorer
Click on Certificate
it will ask you to install it, say yes

soft reset phone.
then try to sync with activesync.

should work, if not check and see of the domain, username, password is right in the server source.

by the way,
activesync service should be enabled by default on the exchange server.

Good luck,
Nathan

Frejos - Thanks for that program. It isn't working for me. Program says that the remote certificate fails the validation procedure. Any ideas? The OWA at work is not the "basic" login screen.

Oh, and I tried to register for your forum, but your site returns with a "serious error loading the forum", fyi

Have you tried just going into active sync Menu/Configure Server and putting in the address that you use for the web access then click next, add the username password and domain click next, then click finish?
