Re: Navizon - Get paid to use your GPS w/ the 6800!

So I heard about Navizon about a month back (maybe beginning of Dec when this thread was pulled back to life) but last time I never got around to signing up. Now I realize I am making a drive from VA to MA in a week for new years, and potentially driving across MA as well, so might as well sign up.

My phone was having issues with a kitchen I cooked (just little bugs that were due to my own noobish-ness, I get less issues with each new cook) so now I am going back to stock WM6.1 to make sure its not a hardware problem.

I am running a Sprint Titan, and I have read some of the posts in here about different settings, etc... is there anything I should expect to change other than doing the install by following directions on their site? And any advice on how to go about setting the phone to roam w/o data use? Finally, when I start the program, will it automatically initiate and start the GPS in the phone or does it only use towers/data? (and if data is turned off how does it upload the information once towers are found, etc)?

Any help would be great, or just a link or post number if someone answered these and I just missed the post.

For the GPS make sure that you go the options on the phone and set it up for the COM that it is active on. (for QuickGPS its COM4). Set it to autostart. Keep your wi-fi on also if you have a car charger it will pick up many houses that are near the highway. As for roaming Setting> Phone> Services> Roaming. Any other questions send a PM

I had to switch to DCD's latest in order to use Navizon. Even then it hangs quite often and is only fixed with a soft reset.

well, the only way to guarantee no data will be used is by having the premium version and setting the locator to "local database", checking "Work offline", and un-checking the "check for updates on startup".
OR
just turn on the data roam guard in phone roaming settings.

if you tell navizon to start automatically, it will also place a shortcut in the windows\start up folder, so if you don't want that, just delete the shortcut, and gps will still autostart when navizon is launched.

it will only upload the data you collect when you tell it to sync, unless you tell it to auto sync daily (I assume sometime after midnight)

a side note for ALL. has anyone actually ran the .net configurator tool? I didn't realize until recently that you have to do more than just install it. also it doesn't show in the start menu, but you can file explore to windows\start menu\programs.

Re: Navizon - Get paid to use your GPS w/ the 6800!

After reading I see that many people have the Navizon hanging problem when exiting and stopping. I have 3.5.1.3 and pick up cells and wifi great. I just recently went to roam only to see if I get more cell other than Verizon. Will downgrading to 3.5.1.2 reduce my pickup of cells and wifi? I really hate pulling my battery out because Navizon hangs my phone.

Why would you have to pull the battery out? Couldn't you just hit the soft reset button on the bottom of the phone (near the USB/SD card slot) with the stylus? Not the worlds most convenient fix, but still easier than pulling the battery every time.

As for 3.5.1.2, thats what I have been running on a fresh Sprint WM6.1 ROM, and I have been picking up quite a few towers/wifi points (have got into the hundreds of wifi's quite a few times while passing apt complexes). Seems to work quite well. I havent had a hanging problem yet, the only issue I have come across is that maybe half the time (give or take) I have to reboot my phone between navizon uses.. once I close it it wont open again until the phone is reset.. Not fun but better than having the phone hang.

Update: I just did a quick test, started Navizon (indoors at my work, didnt find anything and couldnt connect to GPS) then closed the program. It wouldn't reopen after closing, I soft reset the phone and then the program opened fine. I put the phone in the nearest window and started it, it found GPS and 1 cell/4 AP's in the couple min I left it there, sync'd the data, quit, and again the program wouldn't reopen w/o restart. Maybe it needs soft reset between each time I use it...

Re: Navizon - Get paid to use your GPS w/ the 6800!

Here is a list of a question and a couple problems. I am asking these here because there forums doesn't seem to provide great help.
1. What effect does the update location time have if you are using local database? Does a lower value in seconds find AP and cells more often?
2. Navizon random decides to recreate the startup shortcut in windows after I delete it. It does not happen every time I close it be sometimes it does.
3. I will be running around and I look at Navizon and the location update time has just frozen and I have to soft reset the phone.
4. Every time I open Navizon the work offline box under data is unchecked. Even when I check that it is checked before I close the program.
5. Sometimes when I receive a phone call when Navizon is running the program locks up and the tracker time stops. I have to soft reset the phone after the call.

Would a downgrade to any version under 3.5.1.3 help these problems.

yea, brendo is busy fighting spam, and the whole navizon team seems to be distracted with the other device types.. hope they come back to us ppcgeeks soon for an update.

First, you are running .netCF3.5 right?

I believe this is to update the location to the server for "real time" tracking, so if your running offline mode it is null. I leave it default

every time you toggle autostart to ON, it will place the shortcut.
could be a ver3.5.1.3 thing to I guess.

sounds like the phone hibernated. also I have better luck if I turn aGPS off.

you might be right (just tried but Navizon froze and i'm teathered.) I shouldn't matter though as long as you've the premium version set to local database.

likely aGPS, try standalone gps.

I don't remember why, but i've been using 3.5.1.2, it still freezes but not as much i think.

also check out CamerAware Buddy, I saw this long ago, but never tried it. but this fresh post has peaked my interest.

Otherwise, it should never be used.

I wrote it, so let me quote the user instructions again:
1. DO NOT HAVE Navizon running
2. Run CamerAware Buddy
3. select Navizon mode
4. hit Run (it will then start up Navizon)
5. Navizon will pop up its window, use it like normal
6. Stop Navizon
7. Quit CaB (it will kill the hanging Navizon process CaB started up PLUS releases the 1-2MB chunk of ram that Navizon is still holding on to)

I personally don't use CamerAware because it's more CPU intensive than Navizon, and that translates into heavier battery use and more heat -- neither of which I want with such a long-running power-intensive program.
(so its clear "CamerAware" and "CamerAware Buddy" are 2 separate apps.)

Re: Navizon - Get paid to use your GPS w/ the 6800!

1. I don't know if I am running netcfv35. If it wasn't in DCD 3.3.4 then no. I am currently installing a version I found on the website. But I get an installation error. It seems to think I need more memory. EDIT: I got the installation finally after deleting a registry entry.

2. I am only using standalone gps. Agps is disabled since i don't have data.

I might try 3.5.1.2 til a new update with closes out.

I have installed cameraaware buddy to see how it goes. The wifi refresh rate might be nice to update in high wifi areas like apartments
