Re: Custom ROMs? Rooting? New to this type of world...

Correct term is rooting for the initial part. after that...i guess you can call it flashing lol. no info and stuff will be erased when you do it but make sure you do what's called a nandroid backup before each update as you will be responsible for any data loss that may but shouldnt occur.

and no there arent any other steps to replace downloaded materials. just make sure you arent replacing anything with a gsm version.

Question Re: Custom ROMs? Rooting? New to this type of world...

Hey guys, I am also a noob when it comes to this. I would love to flash the phone for the free teathering but am to chicken to mess up the phone. And after reading some of the stuff that was removed on the flash, some of it I would like to keep like sprint tv and nfl. If anyone has the time to help me please feel free to email me and then I will call you or have you call me whatever would be easier for you. Thanks for any assistance you can give. nikeguy208 @ hotmail.com (sorry had to break up my email because site wouldn't let me list it normally)

RUU= Radio Unit Upgrade, usually you won't need it. It is for returning to stock.

No, not if you are rooted. Flipz will incorporate it before most people can get it downloaded though I assure you! He did last time.

I can tell you that it is not hard. Use the auto root on the Fresh Pre-Kitchen. It is at geekfor.me and it works for everyone I know that has tried it.

Sendkeys is a very sensitive process which is why sometimes it fails and sometimes it doesn't. And the only time sendkeys is needed is for rooting so if you're already rooted, you're ok.

As far as the phone being mounted... make sure you are only plugging it in. Don't plug it in and then go to the notification menu and click "mount."

To shed some light on your remount issue please open this file and copy/paste me what's in it:

c:\folder-where-kitchen-is\adb\help-debug.txt

Ok so adb isn't seeing your phone at all. What method did you use to root your phone? The only reason I ask is because most methods (including the kitchen) would require adb to be working.

Do you have do you have USB debugging turned on or off? It should be turned ON. settings < applications < development < usb debugging. Also with it turned on make sure you don't have any missing drivers in device manager. Install HTC Sync if you have to (it will install the drivers for you, except for on 7).
