Re: 2.2 May Not Come Till December

I have a question about Sprint's speed in releasing updates and the general consensus that they're slow. What is this in comparison to? Is it to other carriers? Is Verizon/ATT/T-Mobile etc. generally faster than Sprint? Or is their speed compared to developers from here and XDA that pump out custom ROMs?

In my opinion yes and yes. This is my first Android phone so its hard for me to say in relation to Android updates, but a few months ago when we waiting on the official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the TP2 Verizon and T-Mobile released theres like two months before Sprint did, although Sprint's ROM had Sense 2.5 on it so it wasn't all bad.

That was an official statement from HTC. They said that issue was that Sense wasn't playing nice with it (which we have known)

So, what do you think this means for us Evo owners? Knowing Sprint I wouldn't be surprised if it took that long for an update.

I do however wonder what the trouble is with Sense on 2.2 since the awesome devs at xda just came out with a 2.2 port with Sense included and are probably just days away from a fully functional port now that the source is out.
I don't believe anyone will be surprised!!! lol

Re: 2.2 May Not Come Till December

Sprint may not make Froyo available to the Evo until late this year, but it will be "out", and functional, long before then...AOSP or Sense form...take your pick.

Uh, most people are locked into 2 year contracts almost all the time. Doesn't stop some from buying new phones.

As for the Evo, there's no reason to rush the 2.2 out. It's in HTC and Sprint's interest to hold out as long as possible. It's not about dev effort and priority despite what they say: It's purely a business decision. As long as Evo is selling well (it has and it will for a while), they are not going to release 2.2.

My money is 2.2 upgrade won't be deployed for Evo at all in spite of what Hesse and Lin said. They will spin it later and back paddle.

Enthusiasts will yell bloody murder for 2 minutes then install non-official 2.2 ROM or move on to another 2.2/3.0 device. Average Joe Evo owner will live ignorantly happy with 2.1 until their contract ends.

Sprint/HTC isn't unaware of this.
UH ya most people on this site get new devices before the 2 years. I get a new device every year because of being a Premier Customer I am not the majority of sprint users. Also Sprint does or should want to get 2.2 out because other phones are going to have it and don't want people buying say a Galaxy because it has 2.2.

Why would Sprint care if people buy a Galaxy? They are getting the Galaxy along with every other carrier, and theirs will have 4G.

true sprint would not care as a sold device is a sold device.. now htc on the other hand may care a great deal and may well make sure that this update is pushed through so as to not lose customers to another manufacturer

All I'm saying is sprint needs to keep up with the other carriers thats all. If I can get a device with 2.1 or go across the street and get a device with 2.2 or 3.0 I'm gonna do it. I want the latest. I don't want to sit around and hope for an update.

OK so the Galaxy wasn't a good example (I know every carrier is getting it) maybe the Incredible would have been better. Sprint doesn't want to loose out because the Incredible has 2.2 and the EVO is only 2.1. It does make a difference look at WM 6.1 and 6.5.

Re: 2.2 May Not Come Till December

I'm not buying any new Android phone until gingerbread ships. Updates are said to slow after that. Sprint isn't going to take the EVO to 3.0 I don't think.
