So yeah now HTC admits the 30fps limit is software because of the HDMI port.
So instead of making a switch so the other 99% of users who DON'T use the HDMI port they just decided to be lazy and cap it at 30fps!
Got to love HTC!!! http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/...he-htc-evo-4g/ Last edited by MrDSL; 07-07-2010 at 03:15 PM. |

I bet a lot of users notice the input touch lag but they just don't know about the 30fps.
You're right though of course the average joe dont know but the more attention we bring this the better chance we can get them to fix it. |

ive felt that way at times as well. i think thats something that gets lost around here is that we make up a very small minority of people who buy these phones. look at it from htcs point of view, we can either put research money into bumping up the fps cap on the evo or we can put that money into releasing a phone in 6 months that destroys the evo. whaich do u think they will choose? im not saying its right or wrong and i would love for them to do it but when the overwhelming majority of folks wouldnt even notice a difference i can see how it wouldnt be of the highest priority.

To answer your statement, most of us don't care it's capped at 30fps because most of us...well...at least I, don't play games on my phones that require that much horsepower. It would be nice if it hit 60fps for bragging rights and I'm glad they fessed up, but it's not a deal breaker for me and I'm not going to lose sleep over this.

Re: So yeah now HTC admits the 30fps limit is software because of the HDMI port.
People pretend not to care, but once we find a way to change the cap, they'll be the first in line to want it. I seriously don't notice the 30fps too much, but what I do notice and care about is if I buy something because it's the best, I expect it to be the best. Right now, the EVO's performance is laughed at by older android models. Seriously, if you got an EVO just because you needed a phone, then great for you. Some of us bought it to be the best phone at the time. The EVO has all the hardware to be the best, but just bad/lazy implementation of firmware. HTC is great at pumping out specs, but they are known to take shortcuts. It's a love/hate relationship, going back to the 8525 days.

HAHA, I've done research and I am by far not illiterate when it comes to anything tech. Now, this 30fps cap isn't effective much at all. Games. That's about it. Your input lag you keep talking about is present in all phones. Hell, even my super duper custom home built bad ass stutters at times when accessing the HDD. This input lag, which I get every now and then only on first use of that particular app, has everything to do with how the evo accesses it's ROM to display the content. Nothing to do with frame rate. Most Movies, videos, etc. are all capped below 30 fps, especially HD content, so again, FPS isn't an issue. Think of it this way, your EVO works the same way a PC does for the most part. SO when you access a file on your PC and it...lags...before it's opened, that's all on the HDD. Can't blame the vid card. |
