Re: All Discussions regarding the OTA update (Sprint re-released the update - 6/29)

...so...since I've now successfully installed this update...and I'm not root anymore...I can't re-root huh?

I just tried to run the stock RUU, and it errors about the boot loader...I was hoping to be able to remove all the sprint nav and nascar and football and amazon/qik nonsense...guess I took the wrong approach to this?

Re: All Discussions regarding the OTA update (Sprint re-released the update - 6/29)

right now there's no way to root if you applied the stock OTA update. they're working on it over at xda and unrevoked. here's the link to the xda discussion. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714157

fingers crossed! many of us are in the same boat.

No offense to the guys doing the unrevoked thing...but thats nonsense...if I can't delete files on the phone, it's a waste of my time. I've used wireless tether for a few hours since getting the phone, which unrevoked if it worked would do fine...but I'm MUCH more concerned about not needing to kill sprint nav, amazon, qik, and all that other nonsense all the time because it's just not there to begin with...the difference in battery life when all that other crap isn't always popping up and loading in the background, is just ridiculous...so I'm happy to wait for a real root to come along...I wish I knew how to help, but I am just not up to speed on what it takes.

I installed the new update today and now it is prompting me to update again - is this happening to anyone else?

Re: All Discussions regarding the OTA update (Sprint re-released the update - 6/29)

Do I have to update? I have had absolutely zero problems with my EVO and my battery life is awesome . . . I don't want to mess it up with this update.

Is it necessary to install this update to run more updates down the line?

Re: All Discussions regarding the OTA update (Sprint re-released the update - 6/29)

For those that haven't gotten the notice to update, you can update it manually under settings/update/manual.

I finally did it at 6:25 and from others said expected it not to be done until 7. But it was actually done much sooner around 6:5~ something. So not even the 30 mins other suggested. I quickly checked all widgets and installed programs, no obvious problems yet. If I come across anything I'll throw it up though.

good luck!

Why did you do the OTA? Don't you guys ever learn? The OTA is already cooked into rooted ROM's, without blocking tethering, etc. Once you apply this OTA, you may have a wait in store to get a rooted phone.
