Re: Root + OverclockWidget = Insane Battery Life 40+ Hours

I have been running mine for about 5 hours now and batt is down to 81%. I haven't been using it too heavy, but I did use bluetooth for a while, made a few calls, read this forum on Wiforums, and have crap for a signal here at work. Cell standby is 43% with Time w/out signal 74%. My settings are the same as described in the link in the first post.

Re: Root + OverclockWidget = Insane Battery Life 40+ Hours

I hope this works because my battery life was practicly unusable. No exageration; I would put the phone down for 4hours after a full charge forgetting to use the task manager to close out programs, and on next pick up phone would be gasping for a charge. I was at the end of my rope with it 4 hours in standby was unacceptable.

No live backgrounds, wifi on, BT on, Cell on, GPS on, maybe internet, rss, mail, missed messages & calls. You know normal use. 4hours, and I was out like 5 or 10 percent battery left.

Hopefully it works, but so far I see an improvement. Tank ya to the op. proper tanks.

You got an app that's keeping your phone awake if that's the case. Download spare parts and go to usage information and partial awake usage. Find out which app is causing it to stay awake. The built in Android battery information is really good too. I have to say Android is probably the best at letting you see what's using the battery out of any of the mobile platforms I've used.

Re: Root + OverclockWidget = Insane Battery Life 40+ Hours

This mod works like a charm. Just make sure you ignore it in task manager and always keep a fresh amount of ram available... obviously having a bunch of apps open is going to be the culprit to poor battery life.

I use EStrongs Task Manager, just fyi for those out there.

And this is NOT Placebo. I used to unplug my phone and within half an hour i'd be at 82% with light use... today, its been 3hrs 5mins and i'm sitting at 81% after a few calls, texts and short use of a few apps. I wasn't expecting to get a million hours out of scaling the CPU down when the screen is off, but man, this really does help and makes complete sense.

There are people doubting this, saying scaling is not possible, and those people are straight techno-illiterate.

***If you are experiencing worse life, please make sure you rooted with Toast's method and check out your setup with your task manager (ignore the overclock widget, obviously), and don't let your available RAM(memory) get down below 120-130M (IMO). Kill it! Also check how often you are syncing for contacts emails calendar location and set your wifi sleep policy to never(if its not already) cuz anywhere with wifi on is gunna be bettery than 3G and especially 4G***

Wifi, bt and gps suck a lot of juice. I would start by turning them off when you are not actively using them.

I'm at 3 hours 3 minutes off the chargers, few texts, emails web searches, moderate to light use for me and I'm sitting at 91% without using any scaling apps or task killers. Key is my phone is actually going to sleep mode and that's when it wastes the least amount of power. The scaling should affect mostly when people's phones are staying in Partial awake which normally is at full cpu speed, but because you guys are throttling you're dropping it to 254mhz. Oh btw I have WiFi on but sleep policy set to never, BT off, GPS ON, and 4G off.

How can you be sure your phone is going to sleep mode? I've searched around and never really got a clear understanding.

Can you force sleep somehow?

for the overclock widget i'm using:

I always hit "detect frequencies" first, by habbit i suppose.

Min: 576000
Max: 998400
Differ Freq Screen Off: Check
screen off freq settings:
min:245000
Max: 245000
Update Interval: 30sec(this doesn't matter imo tho)
Supress Notification: Check
Use your freq: Check
Auto-start on boot: Check

then i click save and done.

In Estrong Task Manager:

I ignore only important apps which makes the phone feel lightning fast without hogging memory. I don't have facebook twitter or anything, so i only ignore things like people, handcent, phone and Overclock Widget.

Also, I removed apps via adb i didnt want, like HtcTwitter(peep), HtcMusic, Flickr, HtcFootprints, and amazonmp3. These are apps which auto launch no matter what, and auto-killing them only kills them til next time your phone wakes up, basically. So removing them was best for me

Also, I keep wifi on and gps... i don't turn on BT unless i need it.

hope that helped

I don't understand how keeping wifi on ( but sleep policy to never ) saves juice...wouldn't it save more if it was just off?
