Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

im stuck at 5s for whatever the reason I cant type it correctly in the cmd window. I am not sure on how to space it to the next line of commands.

example
I can type this line
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image

but following it baffles me.

Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

I get the "phone low on disk space" at this step

"cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/local/flash_image
chmod 755 /data/local/flash_image
/data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img"

I think i've copied the files on other attempts of rooting, how do I get rid of them.

After each line, hit enter. If you're confused on the spacing, copy/paste it all into notepad on your pc and look at each character. Or, zoom in on your browser window so the font is bigger.

Also, if you're on the latest OTA 1.47.651.1 version, you may want to try SimpleRoot. It does the typing for you.

Same way you put them there. Connect your phone using Disk Drive and delete any files you don't need.

Also, if you're on the latest OTA 1.47.651.1 version, you may want to try SimpleRoot. It puts the correct files on the card for you.

I have a bad block in my NAND. Does anyone know how to format NAND so I can start re-root?

I would guess reinstalling the the Signed RUU might fix.

If you could change those files, you'd have NAND protection removed. Which means you'd have full root access.
You haven't actually changed any files on your phone yet, unless you're fully rooted.

Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

I just got my Evo the 12th and the OTA upgrade is on it. I tried to run Simple Root to no avail. How can I root my phone? Any and all help is appreciated.

Exactly, if you did the RUU and are back to stock, there are no files to remove. You haven't written any files to the phone yet because you don't have access.
So, you should be able to do either the SimpleRoot method or follow the instructions in post #1 for your appropriate version.

I'm hoping you just tried the wrong SimpleRoot method. For your phone, you need to use this version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720565

If that's the one you tried and couldn't get it to work, I'm not sure you'll be able to do it through this tutorial either. SimpleRoot automatically does what this tutorial has you do manually. The steps are the same but the only difference is SimpleRoot does them all for you.

If you want to try doing it the manual method, follow Section 5 in Post #1.
