So Rom Manager works with ClockworkMod well i tried flashing through the NAND and now its Clockwork. Is that the same or different? What is Better? I liked the NAND. It was fun to show off to others. Any help thanks.

So I deleted all the associated files and downloaded the mirror version and it worked like a charm. Not sure what the problem was. I would like to know if anyone has an idea why the original didn't work.
Just a guess but your first download was incomplete?

So if I read you right, then you flashed Clockwork from within ROM Manager?
I think you have your terms a bit confused. The two common Recoveries are amon RA Recovery and ClockwordMod Recovery. They are essentially the same. Personally I prefer amon RA.
Nand is the backup that you do in amon RA Recovery. Clockwork does a backup too, again, essentially the same as amon.
If you want to switch back to amon RA Recovery scroll down to the bottom of ROM Manager and select Flash Alternate Recovery. You can select amon from there.

I am wondering if rooting causes any issues with 4G? I want to root my phone but not if 4G won't work after.

Thanks for any responses!
Root should not effect 4G. I dont have 4G but with root I was able to update my files correctly so that when it comes to my area I'll be ready. I've read NUMEROUS posts of happily rooted 4G users. You'll be fine.

You can just Say No to the update and you'll be back at the Menu options.
Once you root you need to rename or remove the PC36IMG file so you dont deal with this exact issue everytime you boot into bootloader.

Please list you software version and what exact step you're on, makes it much easier to figure out how to help you.
BUT I think I may know your issue. You either started with the wrong step-if your software is 1.47 you need to start with Root after OTA 1.47 (Step #5) or your PC36IMG file did not download correctly. They need to be @ 170MB in size.

Well you need to flash Clockwork first then you'll have that option at the bottom to flash RA.
Curious- if you didnt already flash Clockwork then how did you get it as a recovery image?

I was having the same problem Js... had that you helped him with. I followed the link you posted to him (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915) and was successful.

Now my question is... do I need to do the SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 again?

No. If you flashed whitslacks files successfully you are done. You had to be rooted with your nand unlocked in order to be able to run his files in the first place.
Now that you have flashed them you are free to stay on his ROM or try out some others.

OTA SimpleRoot

Please, I am new to android and rooting/flashing to this I|OS/device.
Can someone tell me if this is all I need to do to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720565 my Evo? I've run this, tried to use the premium ROM Manager to install a custom ROM, ran ClockworkMod Recovery and received a message that an error occurred while attempting to run privileged command!
I've googled the error message and most post I've found refer to rooting my EVO. I thought I did that by performing the "OTA SimpleRoot". I just got the EVo on 7/24 and it already had the latest OTA update installed. I really don't know what my next step is. How can I tell if it is in fact rooted?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jus

Edit: I was able to use OTA SimpleRoot to get into boot recovery and was able to flash from there. Whew! There definitely is a learning curve with Andriod. I have to re learn everything it seems since coming from Winmo. Now I'm searching on how to install themes...

Re: OTA SimpleRoot

Please someone help! I am very much a n00b, although I did successfully ROOT my first evo that I got on release day via toasts method. Since then I have gotten a new evo due to the screen issue, and I can't root it. I've tried toasts, simpleroots, and tried both multiple times.

The main hangup I am getting via toasts now is when i reboot recovery in one of the last steps, the phone reboots and i get the black screen with the disk drive and the red triangle with the ! in it. No matter what I, I can't get into recovery. I'm trying to flash to OMJ. What does that symbol mean, and what do I need to do differently?

Thanks so much,
Leo

Re: [TUTORIALS] EVO Full Root|OTA Root|Nand Backup/Restore|Flashing|for n00b's + vide

sent this to the person who made the write up but I'm sure he is busy so seeing if anyone here could help out as well

ok i apologize first off for what is probally a stupid mistake but i am new to the evo and rooting anything actually..

i followed the instructions here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=792

i just got my evo on friday so it has all the newest sprint updates and stuff

everything went fine up to part 5q. i got something similar to the code that pops up after 5q. mine varied a lil like it said it would

i did part 5r and that worked fine as well

5s is where i got problems. i typed the code like you said but i got a message on the command window that says this:

chmod: no such file or directory

755: no such file or directory

i continued to part 5t and it did everything but it did not ask me to start update...it said update failed do you want to reboot.

this is where i am stuck at...i read a little into the thread after that post but i am still confused. i am guessing i am partially rooted but not completely. if you could help me get passed this part that would be awesome.. Thanks again!!!
