Hopefully you followed the instructions and made a Nand backup? You can simultaneously find out if you did full root correctly and restore your backup.

Change the name of the PC36IMG.zip. Just add a letter or # to the name.
With your phone unplugged Power it off.
Hold Vol Down while you power back on.
This will boot you into hboot. Let the system check for PC36IMG which if wont find because you took it off your card or renamed it.
Then select Recovery.
If you are fully rooted the phone will boot into Recovery and you'll see the menu and be free to restore your Nand backup.
If you didnt do Part II/Nand bypass correctly then when you boot into Recovery the phone will stop at the screen with the red triangle and wait for you to plug in the usb to run Recovery manually.
Hope that clears it up for you.

First-you said you rooted and were unable to boot recovery with ROM Manager.
My suggestion is to follow the steps (watch the video) and do the steps outlined for Manual Recovery.
Not sure what you meant by "unable load a ROM manually without it restarting"
If you rooted correctly and follow the steps for Manual Recovery you should be able to flash a new ROM-either the rooted version of stock or a custom one.

In describing the attempt to get past Nand protection and flash the new PC36IMG.zip you didnt mention the placement of the flash_image and the mtd-eng files. Did you do put those files (not the zipped folders) on the root of the card and follow the adb commands listed in the tutorial?

I *think* I see your errors and they are fixable.
Hopefully the reformatting of the SD card wont become an issue when you retry.
I read Fast's tutorial and watched his videos and got Part I of the root on my first shot and Part II took a 2nd try but I found my mistake and was able to correct it.
Hang in there Dude.

Just to be clear,

-I got the first part of the ROOT taken care of... I am able to root
-I am able to make a NAND backup
-I tried the CUstom ROM, loading it manually (Damage Control 3.1.2). I placed it on the ROOT.. and in another folder...(the download folder for ROM Manager)..., went through the Factory Wipe and Clear Davlik's-cahch WHen it finished loading, and I went to reboot, it would continuously boot to the white HTC EVO 4G screen...
-and of course... the crazy weird retarded thing, is that it won't read the PC36IMG.zip file on the card... but it will read the Damage Control's zip file... without a problem... which is very very very frustrating...

You're supposed to load custom roms from the recovery screen! That PC36IMG file is the only file that should read on its own when you go into bootloader...................wphend00!

Awesome! Glad you got it. Enjoy, and yes, you can erase those files (they're on your PC, right?) or put them into a folder on your SD.

I've heard Damage Control is good but the reloading sounds like a 1) wipe issue-did you do each (Factory reset and Dalvic) twice? or 2) a ROM issue. Try OMJ's even if it's just a test-it's rock solid.
When you say it wont read the PC36IMG.zip do you mean the 2nd one for getting past NAnd?
If that's what you meant, did you go through the steps listed for placing and installing the flash_image file and the mtd-eng file?

YES, I know... and that is what I do... but when I load the custom rom, it installs, but only gives me a continous booting white screen with Spring 4G EVO on it... I am downloading some different roms and will try those...next... but my EVO is not recovering the PC36IMG file which is my original backup of the Factory ROM... so I am stuck with a none-functioning EVO...

That might mean you already have that file installed.........its basically like an update for your phone......so if you try to install it twice it might say that!
