make sure you have the LATEST version of HTC Sync from HTC installed. NOT the version on the phone...but direct from HTC's support page for EVO.

you have to follow the manual recovery instructions...once you have the red triangle and the EVO...
IF you have Win7...and when you run the recovery-windows.bat as admin...and "nothing" happens. Just double click it normally.

After you get the yellow lettering screen like the video...you should be GOLDEN!!
I don't know about him but when I try to do this, all the happens is a click on the recovery-windows and nothing happens...then I'll do it manually through commend and get the error where the computer doesn't recognize my phone.

Also, I do have the latest sync software installed so that's not the issue.

Re: EVO - Root|Recovery|Nand Backup|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Videos

did you try to run as admin AND try just by clicking on the .bat file??

One of those ways worked for me...

then again...I took a chance and took the battery out...and started over while in the red triangle mode. (not recommended...but I got a little desperate last night too.)

+1 you have to right click and run as administrator in vista and 7 and that worked like a charm for me

Thank you. You had me look over everything I had done and now it is working out so far. Thanks a ton. Oh and for anyone else who did a bonehead move like me, my main idiotic problem was I did not install HTC Sync from HTC's website. http://www.htc.com/us/support/evo-sprint/downloads/

You've gone through the root and are having trouble with the rest of the process recovery/wipe/flash-correct?
ROM manager doesnt seem to work 100% of the time while on a rooted stock ROM so it's possible, but it may not go.

I think you said you watched the video tutorial but if not I'd go there.

You need to boot into recovery, get the red triangle, plug in the usb, then run the bat file, in that order. I'm sure you are, just checking...if you try to run the batch file and your phone isnt plugged in the command box will flash and disappear.
If your PC doesnt acknowledge your phone when you plug in the usb then you may have a bad cord, a bad port or something hardware related.
Did you try rebooting the PC?

EDIT: I just booted into recovery with Sync turned off so that shouldnt matter.

The whole point of the root is to give you access to the OS that you would not normally have. It does not by itself make any changes to the OS. It allows you to use apps that need root access to function. It also allows you to flash custom ROMs.

Re: EVO - Root|Recovery|Nand Backup|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Videos

I believe the problem is the computer is not recognizing my phone. It shows up as mass storage when I select that but when in recovery mode and plug in, the comp do not find my phone...I'm sooooooooo frustrated! I've read every post, watched the videos 4 or 5 times and have read the first post so many times it's crazy!
