Yes, that seems to be the consensus. I'm going to take that out for now and tell people to stick w/ the manual method.

Re: EVO - Root|Recovery|Nand Backup|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Videos
dont know if im doing something wrong but i tried the rom app and it doesnt do anything... i try to flash the radio that you can download from the app but nothing happens
anyways, i did it the manual way and im good... to be honest i was kinda worried since im used to flashing on windows.. anyways.. got it going... i think i will wait a little longer to flash a rom.. once something more tweaked is out.. i cant complain too much about the stock rom i guess.

I remade the videos. Actually, now it's just one video that shows everything.
Plus, it's updated w/ the method I'm using now which is actually a little easier, especially for those having issues getting into recovery mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oja2a6O96wQ Also, I'm adding a little F.A.Q. section. If you have any suggestions for what questions/answers I can put there, please let me know. |

What does the Nand Backup actually do? And do we only need to do it once, and then all we do is use the rom manager to flash ROMs? Thanks!

Re: EVO - Root|Recovery|Nand Backup|Flashing for n00b's Instructions & Videos
Hey fastRX8, once again, thanks for all of your help. I just wanted to mention something you might want to check out.
After I ran with Calk's ROM for a bit, I wanted to mess around a bit more ... in the interest of learning. It's not a flash addiction! Anyway, I flashed the stock-rooted ROM I found on XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693980). And then I went to SDX, where joeykrim has an excellent ONLINE ROM builder. (http://forum.sdx-developers.com/deve...al-update-zip/) Right now it mostly removes bloatware, but that will work for many people who are biding their time waiting for 2.2. I removed all of the crazy Sprint apps and dumb widgets I don't use. He had one for the Moment and I loved it for that device. Also, that stock-rooted rom gave me that SuperUser icon I didn't get before. Thanks again!

There's a lot of people making stuff for the EVO now. Personally, I'm hoping for a kitchen from flipzmode like he made for the Hero. Don't know if you ever saw his work on the Hero, but basically you could take a stock Hero, connect it to the pc and from the kitchen you could root, backup/restore and customize roms. His method was so easy it was insane. If he does make a kitchen like that, they should sticky that instead of this thread. |
