when I do the clockworks mod i get a exclamation point after i reboot in recovery...anyways to fix that???

OK I checked the link from p-slim I know how to root, but what does that do for me? Do I have to root? what does root do? what does root mean? Thanks

Ok well I'm pretty sure I did it right but one thing is making me think that I did NOT....

I don't have the program superuser.

Did I mess something up or was this just the superNOOB question of the hour????

It is like Superuser / Administrator access (on MS Windows), but to your phone / files.

OK, for the record, I've had one heck of time trying to downgrade and start from scratch.
I definitely know how to do all the steps, but I'm still running into issues trying to use Rom Manager for loading roms.

The one process that has never failed me, is the original process that I posted. Going into Recovery mode the manual way has worked 100% of the time for me. No matter how bad everything is failing, I can always power down, reboot into bootloader, connect to the pc and run the "recovery-windows.bat" file.
I also noticed everything, at least for me, has been much more reliable if I only connect the phone when I need it to be connected and using XP instead of Windows 7 has also been easier.

Have you tried doing this by the manual method I described? The videos show all the steps.

Also, if what version of Windows are you using?

Now hold volume UP and press power. Select "apply sdcard:update.zip"
Also, read my response to AYSIANA above this. I'm having issues getting Rom Manager to do everything it's supposed to be.

The very 1st time I rooted, the SU icon showed up.
After unrooting and rooting again, it never shows up for me until I install a rooted rom. So, basically I'm in the same boat. No SU icon but loading a custom rom makes the icon show up.

This happened to me even after downgrading completely to a stock shipped rom. I was still unable to make the SU icon show after rooting. I had to install a custom rom to see it.
I had the same results. It only showed up after I loaded a custom rom. What rom are you running.

I was to affraid to try a rom in case I had done something wrong. So, I'm okay so far.... just keep plugging away hoping NOT to brick a phone I've had for less than 4 hours lol. Is there no other way to tell that I've done it correctly?

clear storage
simlock
hboot usb

Thats it nothing else no matter how long I wait. I can see it checking for the zip file but says bad image or something like that. Any clues?

With the phone on at the home screen, plug it into the pc, select HTC Sync and see if you get a "USB debugging connected" notification. Looks like this /!\

That seems to get automatically enabled when you root. Don't know why, but after I was no longer getting the SU Icon, that's what I started looking for.

Have you rooted?
If you did the 1st step of rooting w/ the PC36IMG.zip file, and it worked, you should have manually gone in and renamed/deleted that file so it won't find anything now.

If so, that means you're at the next step. From that menu, select recovery, connect the phone to the pc and run the "recovery-windows.bat" file.
Have you seen the youtube videos?
