Re: EVO Pic/Vid samples [Videos Up]

For a quick snapshot cell phone camera those pictures are exceptional. The point is like others have stated before, most of us always have our phones on us, so at least we have SOMETHING decent to take quick pictures with. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and it's an 8 MP camera as well, but it's a pro level camera and takes pictures that make the Evo pictures look like an Etch-A-Sketch drawing, but I rarely ever have it with me. I only take it along if I know I'm going to be taking pictures.

I agree that I think people expect too much from extra features like cameras and video recording. No way a cell phone is ever going to come close to devices dedicated to their purpose. For what it is though, casual picture taking and videos, it looks like it does a great job.

Re: EVO Pic/Vid samples [Videos Up]

Ok...compared to my current digital camera, the Canon SX110, which is a 9mp camera...the video quality hands down it 100% better. 640x480 is all my camera can do for video...but I have to say first hand from seeing those pictures, this camera is quite good..almost great.

Like some previous post, how do you say the Pre takes better pictures? They look as good, maybe a little better than my TP2 takes...and I didn't know the sky was purple either :P

Basically what I'm saying is that for $199 (After Rebate) your getting a pretty damn good phone, with exceptional camera and picture quality. You really can't ask for more a such a reasonable price. Now if the Evo was going for $699 or $899...I would be worried..but all in all from what I've seen...The Evo does the job supurbly.

Re: EVO Pic/Vid samples [Videos Up]

Guys just remember, Qik and the Android camera app record at terrible bitrate, despite being 720p. Bluray is a max of 48 Mbps(Mebibits per second). That's (we'll use binary since I'm not sure if it's Mebi or Mega, we'll assume 2^x for all our bits here) only 48/8 or 6 MBps(Mebibytes per second).

According to The SD Association a class 6 SD card can do a minimum of 6 MBps sustained. That's enough transfer speed to write a full blu-ray quality video to the card, sustained.

So what does this mean for us? It means that unless these apps are hitting the limit of Android's filesystem driver OR the limit of the snapdragon CPU (I doubt this) we should (I hope? Unless writing camera apps for Android isn't possible, but after hearing that Skype and Qik did it, I imagine it is) see higher quality compressed videos (by increasing the bitrate) sometime after the EVO hits market. I read somewhere (here, at Giz) that the bitrate of the current recordings are 5 Mbps. That is less than 1/8 what is possible with the storage medium. I'm willing to bet that if the Snapdragon can decode high bitrate that we can definitely get a higher bitrate on record. It's just a matter of time.

what are you looking at?? seriously. a blind man can see the pre shots are LOADS better than tp2, and the sky is exactly the color it was outside. Not really purple either (adjust your monitor or somethin), but thats what the sky in hawaii can look like, in case youve never been

Re: EVO Pic/Vid samples [Videos Up]

Ill try and get some comparison shots between the evo, pre, and tp2 tommorow if i remember, for a DIRECT comparison. my 1st impression is the cam aint as bad as i thought, im not impressed with it but seems like it might do

--------------------------------------------------

here is a quick comparison in LOW LIGHT.
its not pretty, but this is more real world
what you will see while shooting indoors with
sunlight peeking through the blinds and some
artificial light mixed in. brace yourself

EVO

Pre

They are both horrible quality, BUT to me
looks like the pre camera captured a little
more detail, and didnt blowout all the highlights
making my son's face unrecognizable. I will give
the EVO the edge on smoothness though,
little less artifacts but less detail too, kinda weird

No cam phone performs well in low light BUT HTC
is notorious for being HORRIBLE in it. The EVO really
struggled here, i had to keep trying to snap shots
because the evo's shutter speed DETERIORATED,
the palm would take the pic and the evo would take
so long that my son would move it it'd be a blurry
mess. This is why i was so anti HTC int he beginning
of this thread, not all of your pics are gonna be taken
outside in bright sunlight

not trying to slay the evo here just being blunt and honest.
Is it a dealbreaker? Hell no, but so many people in here
looked at me crazy when i mentioned the pre camera as
if it was really worse than htc cams, had to a do a sanity
check for myself

Man you got the charcoal going! Looking good already. The video is ok and the videos in the first post were exceptional for a phone. Definitely not a deal breaker.
