EVO Pic/Vid samples [Videos Up]

The EVO is definitely not a replacement for your dedicated digital camera. It's also not a match for high end camera phones like the Nokia N8 (see video sample , if you haven't already).

That said, I still think it is a step up from most cell cameras, even if it is a small step.

Here are some samples I took during lunch (except for the last one, I shot that a couple days ago). Videos are still uploading to youtube. I'll post those when they're done. [Edit: they're done, see below]

Also note that these were all shot quickly, freehand, with automatic settings. You could probably do better if you played with things a bit.

Didn't mean to leave this filter on, but it turned out kind of cool anyway:

Close-focus shot from my porch. Too bad the plants are half dead!

Do we not have the ability to embed youtube? You can on XDA using . Anyway, here's some links.

You can see that the video quality still lags significantly behind the still images. OK in a pinch for scenes without much movement, but you're not going to get great results for fast-action. These really don't seem like 24 fps to me, but that's what they claim. I shot one of the videos in portrait, but I guess the video camera isn't orientation aware.

Re: EVO Pic/Vid samples

really disappointed in EVO camera, i tried to tell people in an old thread that it would not even come close to the pre's quality (which is great). HTC should just quit making cameras and outsource it to somebody who gets it

I don't know, my wife has a Pre and aside from shutter speed, I don't think HTC cameras give up much to it. And the shutter speed on the EVO is quite good actually. Close to the Pre, but not quite a match.

Without better optics and a bigger sensor, there's just not that much you can do in software. The alternative is to carry a Nokia with a giant sensor and Carl Zeiss optics. Nice, but overkill IMO for what is always going to be a secondary camera.

I think those pictures are great for social networking sites and other type of quick shots.

Downtown Houston looks so dead today ...

I second that... Pic quality is pretty damn good... Now some of the HD videos I've seen floating around aren't what I expected but still better than any other Phone I've ever owned... Not that I use either one that much but with the quality I'm seeing, I may be more proned to whip it out and snap a few pics and a vid here and there...

As someone already stated, it's a step in the right direction... Compared to my TP2, it's a BIG step!!!

While those are no where near the quality my D60 takes, dude...it's a phone. Those are spectacular.

Re: EVO Pic/Vid samples

The Pre are you serious? MY wife had 2 of them had nothing but problems. The second time sprint admitted it is a LOW satisfaction phone and gave her the samsung moment. It has problems to but I have been impressed with android. And the Pre only has 3.2 MP like the TP2 she took pictures with it I wouldn't say they sucked but certainly not what you are raving about either.
