EVO Pic/Vid samples [Videos Up]

The EVO is definitely not a replacement for your dedicated digital camera. It's also not a match for high end camera phones like the Nokia N8 (see video sample , if you haven't already).

That said, I still think it is a step up from most cell cameras, even if it is a small step.

Here are some samples I took during lunch (except for the last one, I shot that a couple days ago). Videos are still uploading to youtube. I'll post those when they're done. [Edit: they're done, see below]

Also note that these were all shot quickly, freehand, with automatic settings. You could probably do better if you played with things a bit.

Didn't mean to leave this filter on, but it turned out kind of cool anyway:

Close-focus shot from my porch. Too bad the plants are half dead!

Do we not have the ability to embed youtube? You can on XDA using . Anyway, here's some links.

You can see that the video quality still lags significantly behind the still images. OK in a pinch for scenes without much movement, but you're not going to get great results for fast-action. These really don't seem like 24 fps to me, but that's what they claim. I shot one of the videos in portrait, but I guess the video camera isn't orientation aware.

really disappointed in EVO camera, i tried to tell people in an old thread that it would not even come close to the pre's quality (which is great). HTC should just quit making cameras and outsource it to somebody who gets it

I don't know, my wife has a Pre and aside from shutter speed, I don't think HTC cameras give up much to it. And the shutter speed on the EVO is quite good actually. Close to the Pre, but not quite a match.

Without better optics and a bigger sensor, there's just not that much you can do in software. The alternative is to carry a Nokia with a giant sensor and Carl Zeiss optics. Nice, but overkill IMO for what is always going to be a secondary camera.

I think those pictures are great for social networking sites and other type of quick shots.

Downtown Houston looks so dead today ...

Kind of off topic, but I hate yall's light rails. Every time I have to go there for work, I almost always seem to get smash by one of those damn things. They come out of nowhere, straight in the middle of the street!

On topic, they look great to me. Much better quality than my diamond that I've been using for about a year and a half. How long is the load time for the camera app? Like from the time you click on the icon to start the camera, to the time when you can "take" the picture? Cause that's one thing that I hate with the diamond, is that you have to scroll over to the camera tab in sense UI, then click on the camera icon, then wait 3-5seconds for the camera app to start working, then another 1-2 seconds for the focus to, well focus lol, then another 2-4seconds to actually view the picture you just took...

What is so disappointing about those pictures? Those look great. How many of us are professional photographers? For Christ's sake, it's a phone. No matter how many features and apps you load into it, it's still, at the end of the day, a phone. Those pics look great. I've been using my TP's camera since I've had the phone. To me, it's just easier to use because you always have your phone with you so you can whip it out at a moment's notice and say "Hey, check out what I got a pic of here." Sure I have a digital camera too, but for ease of use, I like the TP's 3.2MP. That being said, I should more than be impressed with the EVO's 8MP. Disappointed with the video quality? What does it need to do to impress you? Even on my old shatty Sanyo phones, you could tell what was happening (most of the time) in all the vids I shot. So once again, what does these cameras and camcorders in PHONES have to do in order to satisfy everyone?

You got to be kidding about the Pre camera being better than these. I had 2 Pre's and my Diamond took better pics than the Pre. These pics are far superior to anything I have seen on a phone; just my $.02.
